Dwarf Hamsters!

...I can't believe I haven't made a journal about this already ^^;
Uh, anyway, a couple of weeks ago, I had decided that I wanted another pet. My cat Azul is getting old and senile. He hisses at me so often it's just sad. I know I won't have him for much longer...my younger siblings remind me of that constantly.
So!
I think I'm going to get a pair of male dwarf hamsters. They're cute and playful and are great apartment pets because...they don't take up that much space or require a ton of attention like dogs do. Ah, but don't get me wrong, I ADORE dogs!!!!! ...but when it's -13°F outside, the last thing you want to be doing is walking around in the ice and cold with your dog so he can do his business...and never mind when you get sick! When you're down with the flu, you still gotta take your buddy out for a walk every day. Dizzy and completely out of it, they still have business to take care of so you gotta suck it up and get out there and pray that you don't pass out along the way.
...ahem...
But, dwarf hamsters just need to be fed, watered, given play things and an exercise wheel and have their enclosure changed routinely like...what...every 2 weeks to a month depending on the size of the habitat? Yeah! That's it. And I grew up with guinea pigs, gerbils, rabbits, mice and a bunch of other animals (even chickens) so, it's not like I'm going into this without any experience. They're comparable to gerbils in regards to maintenance so, I know I can handle this. As long as they're both male, I should be totally fine

...unless...I'm confusing them with our guinea pigs... ...hmm...maybe I really should double check this out.
Kudos for your new pets, Miss Mouri.
Good luck with the hamsters!
It's almost better to outlive them than to have them outlive you; you don't have to worry about what happens to them after you go.
What always puzzled us, was how she got herself off the dresser and down to the floor without breaking her neck o__o After all, it was a TALL dresser. I loved that hamster, and miss her greatly.
We picked ours up along with a gerbil from someone who was giving them away. When we cleaned their habitats we would put them in hamster balls and the dwarf hamster was faster than the gerbil who was 4 times it's size!
Sorry to hear about your cat. *Hugs* We have several cats that are in their mid-teens, so I know what you're dealing with. It's hard watching them change, knowing what's going to happen. Just keep loving Azul like you always have. *Hugs again*
I used to have gerbils, but the shoppe near my house didn't sell them because people didn't want them...they look too much like mice, I suppose *shrugs* I think they're adorable!
For now, I am good with my rats. x3
Good luck with the new little ones!
I have had rats get out before, but they don't go far. They know where the food is. x3
Hamsters..............uhhhhhhh, I had a hamster, smartest damn small animal I have ever owned, but she kept getting out, and would never come back [we would just happen to find her in places], and one time, she got out and the cat bit her, and she died a little while after that. D;
So I guess my experiences are opposite of that xD The rats are smart, don't get out often, but when they do, they come back, and my hamster who was INCREDIBLY smart, never would come back on her own. x3
Good luck with whatever li'l rodent type you decide to get!
On another note, I can understand why not a male n a female hamster, but why not both female?
Oh, well, as for the hamsters, males are more friendly and affectionate than females. I'd rather not go the female route They tend to fight more.
