Commission Stamps and Tattoo's
So today I finally stopped procrastinating and shot out a note, individually to every artist I have gotten a commission from. So far the replies are piling in and it's been received mostly with acceptance and understanding. I have 2 artists (so far) who don't want to use the stamps in any fashion and one artist who thinks I'm a selfish prick for even asking, even though that artist claims to not even be around FA anymore.
I've gotten to the point where I WANT the artists signature on the image, I wouldn't mind something outlining that I commissioned the work.
I have a number of artists who don't want to worry about having Ssvanti's chest with the tattoo visible in my commissions, and after speaking with some other artists, I had a few recommend a commission stamp. Fydbac even made me a set of 4. Today Grisser surprised me with a another stamp he said I could use in response to the note I sent him. A few other artists have offered to make modified version if I like.
The concept here, is the artist now has a choice, draw ssvanti's chest with the tattoo visible, or have free reign on positioning choices, and merely add the EXACT same icon on the image as a stamp, a watermark or signature of commission. The old option was "the tattoo had to be visible on his chest." So while the requirement is still, the symbol must be visible, it no longer has to be visible on his chest.
This also helps reduce the theft of the art to dump sites or membership paid adult sites (I don't have issues with dump sites generally, but I do have issues when they don't bother giving the artist credit, proper link backs etc).
Really it's not so much that my name has to be on the art. As I want it known beyond a doubt, that Ssvanti is in the image.
This does still pose a few problems when generic iksar or other "unspecific" characters are in the image and ssvanti's chest tattoo isn't visible, but I'll work with those issues on a case by case basis with the artist.
In the notes I sent out I had links to the images for use as stamps, and those stamps seem to be blocked for some users, and depending on how many people attempt to view them at the same time, apparently there is a bandwidth limitation as well as total hits limits. So I uploaded the same files to FA in my scraps.
So if you are trying to get the stamp and the dropbox link isn't working for you, get it here:

The photoshop brush pack I haven't gotten to upload right, so it will still need to be downloaded from dropbox link in the journal/notes.

Don't see why an artist would be against this for one of your commissions in the slightest
Not really sure what the upside of keeping copyright on a character whose basic form is derivative from a SOE game. I'm already wondering if I'm going to be able to pull off selling a pooltoy version of Unk, even though it will be called a "Lizardman" and never an "Iksar" - it will be digitigrade which Iksars are not; have some simplification/toonification and further Anthropomorphification of the Iksar; lose the sail crest on the head; have Pantone colors which I think will make it grey or camo color; cuter as well.
All this said and done, I could have a very minor commercial success - what if Sony gets wind of them, sees and sends C&D*? Game over, man!
* "Cease & Desist," the common way corporations tell little people to stop doing things, which usually the little people have no choice but to comply. Sometimes it's a prelude to being sued for huge money, or at least confiscating all the stuff you're selling, all the profits you made selling a certain something... you get the idea. It really should be delivered in a black envelope.
Ignorance is bliss. It's not like I'm losing out on money if someone takes a pic of me and uses it for their own personal use. I would have an issue if they tried to tell me that they commissioned it or anything. Actually, I give more props to the artist than anything. For without the artist, the picture would never have been made. I'd have more issue with the artist not being represented rather than myself. :P
At least you do tend to switch up the themes which i respect.
That might be why some artists think your kinda selfish.
Its always one out of the bunch.
If i might suggest, perhaps take a break from character commissions (honestly you have a huge stockpile), and maybe start rule 34ing stuff, which ive noticed you do like to do. Artists tend to like having more freedom with a commission, consider being less picky about stuff.
I mean sheesh, stop and take a look at all of the commissions you have. Its your money, but still, i personally could not keep track of 200+ pics of Aquin... id rather let the artist have fun and rule 34 the shit out of stuff.
I like Iskars to, but seeing them so frequently tends to make them boring, catch my drift?
Not mad at ya, just offering some advice.
I put tons of thought and meditation into my fursona, i could never "whore" him out in this way.
Back on the watermark subject though, most artists do that anyway. At least most of the major artists ive seen. Your characters tattoo in itself actually makes for a perfect one.
Sorry if i got a little off topic, its almost 3am here.
