Bizarre Things: No Rest for the Weary. 21th Journal

                            This is my head.

Wow, I had a weird experience last night in one of the IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channels I frequent. I been on and off IRC for a decade or so and only been banned twice from a channel. The first time was actually my first day on IRC. I didn't understand the rules and got banned. I PMed (Private Message) the channel founder and he explained the rule clearer. I was unbanned without any problems (I since took over the channel years later after he dropped out).
The second time was last night. But unlike the first guy, the OP (channel operator) was not understanding at all. I happened when someone asked about RP (Role Play) in the channel and if yiffy was allow. The OP responded by saying no public sex chat, only in private and PMs (This point is key). I suggested a separate room to have my "shows". he kept saying non-public and I agreed with him and a separate room would be nice and private. Then things got confusing when he threatens to ban me from the channel if I don't drop it in the channel. I was agreeing with him, so I thought. He meant sometime quite opposite than what he said earlier.
I tried a chat in a PM to clarify things, but he called me stupid and was very crass and insultive. No help at all. I tried to keep calm as I was generally confused by his hostile attitude. I was even more confused since I was nice and courteous throughout the chat. I finally pieced what he meant after 6 pages of chat (yep, 6 pages). Trying to understand this guy was tough. Beside calling me all sorts of names like I'm stupid and that I shouldn't procreate (I have a genius IQ and a B.S. degree in E.E., so that's way off base. Ironic).
So it ended up that non-public does mean non-public in the normal sense (non-public infers private, jut like he first stated). But in a long about way, he meant that I just declare that I'm going to a such-n-such room and chat in the channel (which of course make it public). A very bizarre way of twisting the meaning. Not only did he constantly contradicts himself but made up new meanings to words as well. No wonder I was confused.
I don't have a problem with the (finally properly stated) rules. Either way is fine with me. He really needs to learn communicate better as well as stop being a jerk. It's no wonder hardly anyone goes there anymore. A sad fate since I met some good furs there. I'm sure he'll ban me if he sees this (probably eventually anyway). I heard warnings about him, but wow, that was one of the most dense people I ever talked to. All he had to do was to state the rule clearly and that'll be it. No fuss, no muss. He sure made it hard not only on me but himself.
My will to do anything in there pretty much dropped to nil, which is a shame since I do a lot of the activity there (or gets things rolling). And I had tons of ideas and stories too. To rule with an iron hand is one thing, but to do it on the innocents is beyond hope. the OPs are supposed to stop the drama, not start it.
Well, enough of that mess. Although it did want me to open my own IRC channel sooner than later on that network. I been thinking of doing so since the early spring. A nice place to chat where people are friendly like me. No harassment, name calling, trolling, flooding or anything like that. Otherwise pretty much anything goes. Maybe in the next coming weeks I'll set one up. I still don't have a name though so if anyone has a suggestion, let me know.
Moving on, things on the home front looks a bit more bleak. I'm at a loss there. Something will boil over soon, I'm sure of it. Not looking foreword of it at all. :(
Anyway, I hope my latest sketch (the post vore scat one) didn't cause too much a stir. I'll probably lose a few watchers over it but what can I do? I did slap a lot of warnings over it so I hope that's enough. I'm not going to focus on it, so that should be a relief to the squeamish. Though there be periods of it depending on my mood.
And finally, the "ask me any questions" thing is still open. Ask away or I'll "visit" you in your dreams.

Sorry about the long post. Once I start, I can't stop. Plus I don't want to be misunderstood so I try to explain it as best as i can. Don't always work if the other person won't listen if you know what I mean.
I hope this was just a channel OP and not an owner. If the owner is around, I would have a little word with them in private. It's a shame, though. There's a bit more to you than people realize. ^^;
I'd be glad to hop into that channel once you've made it, too. Keep me appraised. ^^
As for the homefront, I hope that it doesn't boil over ._. it's like you're a drama magnet or something. All you can do for now is tickle it a little and hope it doesn't get worse, but just hope in the meantime... that it doesn't on its own.
This OP is not the channel owner, who rarely comes online there I gather. In fact, the OP is a slave to the owner. This might explain the Op's attitude. Loss the ability to differentiate the right and wrong way to treat people. Don't have the social skills me thinks. Not everyone wants nor needs to be treated like slaves. Even then, a slaves need to know the rules anyway. Unless the master trying to be cruel by contradicting himself to confuse the slave. I think it was subcontonious though. I'm no psychologist, but this explains the temper tantrum pretty much.
As for setting up my own channel, I have a few ideas. I was planning a nice friendly area for a long time now. I think I been on FurNet long enough (the last incident really brought it to the forefront) to start one. I own many IRC channels on other networks and I'm able to leave it relatively drama free. It's impossible to totally avoid it but I do try to keep things civil.
Once I do pull the trigger, I definatlately keep you in mind for OPs (If I don't forget. My shody memory). You do seem like a stable and mature person from what I tell (I have been wrong before but I think I know you long enough). I won't play favorites though. I seen what happens down that road and it wasn't pretty. The worse is when the OPs fights. Gah! I hate that. I seen it happen in FA's own channel and that was a mess. I know disagreements happen, but it should be (once again) civil. It'll be a fine act to keep it behind closed doors while still have the rest of the members informed what's going on. I find secrets is almost as bad.
On the westernfront... I mean homefront, things did boiled over a little bit. A long "talk" and one of those "last chances". I know relapses are common and it can take several tries to "stick". Let's hope it'll work this time. Our patients it wafer thin at this point. And a message to you smokers and drugheads, we can tell. All that "purfume" does cover it up. Just makes it stink more. Plus things like cash disappearing is a big clue as well.
Sorry about the long reply. I tend to to that a lot. *eeps*
I do think you should try to at least contact the channel owner and inform them of their op's actions, it doesn't seem righteous at all to treat common users like that, regardless of who you are or what powers you happen to hold in said community.
I'm honored that you may consider me for an op, though. ^^; I look forward to seeing when you make it, and am sure to join you. ^^
Erk... it does sound like something is going to happen soon. I hope you can resolve it quicker than the last one, if it does heat up to "trouble" proportions... especially with who it involves this time.
Yeah, it's been brewing for a while. The hints was there but it became intolerable. We're watching very close so any slip is easy to spot. Hopefully something drastic won't be needed. *crosses his claws*
But keeping my cool was tough. I had to hold my tongue when he called me stupid over and over and such. Little did he know I'm way more intelligent. I didn't mention it cause I know I'll get permanent ban for sure. Seems these people can't stand to be wrong and use their "power" to compensate. All too common I see.
Miscommunication is the problem with many issues in life.
I sound like a friggin' noob. DX I know nothing.
I'm sure I'll have more questions about it, but this is all I can think of right now.
IRC is huge though. Thousands of IRC servers with hundred of thousands of channels out there. Many can be found here: http://searchirc.com/ . FA has their own channel on FurNet. Just click on the chat button on the Nav Links area on a FA page. It'll should take you to a page explaining more of it.
I use mIRC as the client. There are others like X-chat. I been using mIRC for a long time and I feel comfortable with it.
The rules vary from network to network. Plus the individual channels have there own set of rules (clearly stated or not ;p ). Pretty much a crap shoot. Of course the people on the channels vary a lot too. Some are quite cool while others... should be near any computer at all.
Basically, IRC is the granddaddy of all the chatting and boards you see all around these days. It still has a "raw" fill to it (haven't change much over the decades). Some new feature added here and there like channels services like nickserve and chanserve. Nickserve allows you to "register" you nick (your screen name) so no one else can impersonate you. Chanserve help to prevent others from "taking over" a channel. I big problem in the early days. Not all IRC networks use these services or even use different formats.
The hierarchy of a IRC channel varies too. A the top is the IRCOPs (IRC operators). These are the adminatrator of the whole network. As for the channels itself, there is the channel founder (usually a ~ synbol in front of their nick). Occasionally there's a co-founder position but is rare. Sometimes there are super channel OPs are just below that (often & in front). Then the regular channel OPs (@), which is supposed to keep the peace when the founder is not in the channel. The half-OPs (%) resides under there in some networks. All these positions can kick or ban people with varying levels of powers. An akick is a stronger form of ban that the higher ups can employ.
Right below are the voiced (+). The voiced are originally meant for when the channel is moderated (a channel setting), only they and about can "talk" in the channel. Good for lectures so that the mass can't chat all over the lesson. Usually the moderation is removed at the end of the session for Q/A. However, most channel use a voice to denote someone just above a normal user. Voices have no real power so it's usually symbolic.
So, that's the short version, ^;;^ I hope it filled some of the gaps. Try mIRC homepage at http://mirc.com/ for some great links to more information on IRC.
