Welcome to Balto's Journal
Well I had this year I my birthday over FC and maybe that wasn't the best time to have it. While the con sales wise was ok a lot of what I was looking forward to didn't happen. Thursday started off ok but ended up talking about sports and FBA so I was mostly a spectator as I have no idea what everyone else was taking about. Although, dinner was nice we had dinner at the old spaghetti factory, Sadly, little did I know that would be my last formal meal of the con. As the con began I spent all day Friday in the den (with no breakfast or lunch) and since every one I was with had already had earlier dinner plans the only option I had for dinner was Nachos by the skating ring. Saturday came around and spent the day again in the den. Every one headed off to dinner and meetings and once again no dinner.. Sunday more of the same unfortunately this time I had to pass on dinner again because I wanted to finish some last minuet stuff so hopefully I could be freed up so enjoy my birthday with my friends.
Things started to look promising when they returned with a cake which was a nice gesture, but no sooner had they arrived, everyone had to go because of other plans so any birthday festivities were postponed until after the FBA party which was ok by me. Well needless to say the party went on until 2 am by the time things were done no one seemed to care and about doing anything else went to bed and that was the night.
Now Sunday came and it was time to go home and no one seemed to want to continue what they started the night before and that was the end of my con. I never even got to have any of my birthday cake or spend some time with my friends like I wanted to. It would have been nice to spend my birthday with my friends but I guess cons only come once a year.
Needless to say I spent most if the con very frustrated I guess it was too much to expect some one to at least want to spend a few minuets with me. Yea.. Another birthday happy birthday to me. So, now you know why I despise Thanksgiving, Christmas and Birthdays, i despise them for the simple fact that they only serve to remind you how insignificant or unimportant you really are to people especially when its people who you perceive as close friends. Maybe I'm just assuming too much and perhaps that is my problem.
I'm sorry for the post but I'm feeling a but hurt at the moment. Nothing hurts more than when it's done by people who you think would care that you exist.

I really enjoyed meeting you and love that drawing you provided (I'm getting that framed properly, before hanging on the wall of my den -- a regular people den that is).

I didn't know we shared a birthday. Let's make sure next year that we do something together. Maybe we can watch Balto. :D Thanks again for the beautiful artwork. It's getting framed and put on the wall as soon as I can get to it.

I think really though, the point of the birthday was to hang out with friends and have a good time, not just to have people focused on you, no offense. You can have a great birthday by having fun with people at a con doing random con related things. It doesn't have to be "con or birthday". Could you not hang out with friends at the con or the FBA party itself and have a good time? Or was it that you would have rather done something other than the FBA party, but you just went along with it and then felt like you didn't belong, in which case I can understand that you would have preferred to do something else. But maybe it was assumed that you would have fun at the FBA party, therefore making it a fun birthday. I dunno.
In any case, Happy Birthday for what it's worth. Sorry it didn't meet your expectations, but please don't think that your friends don't care about you because they brought you to a party that you didn't have fun at.
I think where I got confused was the part where you mentioned your friends got you a cake (I know B-Hop got you one) but then they wanted to go to the party, so I thought you were at the party with at least a few of your friends. But naturally, if you don't really know anyone well enough to feel comfortable participating then that would be a very awkward birthday.
I'm sorry you had to go through that. That's a problem with cons, there are so many people and so many things to do that we don't have the time to do everything we want with everyone we want. I run into that problem all the time, and you just had to experience it at a time when you really could have used the good, close company and positive vibes. I'm sorry that didn't work out for you. I hope next year will be better, or perhaps next time some of us meet we can get to know each other a little better so that you might make a few more friends in the FBA circle. :)

Hope you can still get a chance to get out to Hawaii at some point. If you do, we can definitely do a belated birthday celebration. Interestingly enough, I didn't realize we were roughly the same age (I'm about 10 months younger). :)
[FWIW, Orbitz is showing fares from Dallas-Ft Worth to Honolulu around $700-$900 roundtrip if you go in March... just as a reference.]
