I have nothing against people getting commissions, and I really appreciate how you give back to the community sometimes as well (i.e. the 60-man orgy)

but I just have one qualm (again, not to be taken negatively so don't yell at me lol ) Seeing this many pieces listed like this, I can't help but think:

'How many of the slots obtained were by artists who open VERY few spots that people try so hard to get...just to have it snatched up with someone with a queue of over 50 pictures.'

this isn't an attack, just my thoughts ^^;

granted...if I had the money...I'd probably be getting a massive amount of images as well xD;

I probably do get slots like you mentioned, however I view it like this, have money or not, we all fight for those artists the same. Most artists don't care if you are rich/poor or somewhere in between, you compete with everyone else the same way for their slots, period.

I will admit, that I have indeed been able to finagle a slot or two from artist who are listed as closed, but more often then naught, I'm turned away, just like everyone else.

I've had 2 artists refuse to let me commission them because I'm too demanding...... apparently telling them which two characters to mate, and then tell them you would prefer a certain position IE Spooning, with the cock in ass visible is too demanding.

I had an artist tell me yesterday they wouldn't let me commission them because my new TOS was too long to read for a simple sketch. When my TOS is essentially the SAME as any artist. Well their words were, I am not going to agree to a contract over a beany sketch......... ;p

The number of commissions doesn't really matter when attempting to get art from an artist, each artist doesn't really care who else you have, or will commission, much less what you are paying someone else. Slots are slots. If an artist accepts my concept, I buy it ;p

It also comes partially because I had a particularly bad 2010 with a plethora of back issues and stories that always end up going unread xD

And it's near rare that anyone ever commissions a story =P

it doesn't help that most of my time is being spent working my ass off for school to try and become the best teacher I possibly can

tends to wind up with missing a good chunk of opportunities to get a spot from a particular artist ^^;

(I also tend to steer clear of artists that are like you mentioned, some are very good to work with whilst others are plain dicks )

You're looking strictly from the "artist" point of view, but you should also think of the comissioners who can't afford to get dozens of comissions a day. Really, snatching multiple slots from popular artists is a very, very egoistic move. Some people are waiting for a select few favorite artists to open up for comissions, and BAM, some dude who got comissions from nearly everyone got most slots, and hey, no space left for him.


Be considerate of others too

If an artists policy allows a commissioner to book more than one slot, that means EVERYONE else gets the same opportunity. If I get there before you, then I get the slots. It's the artists choice. I have to deal with the same issue when other commissioners book an artist for multiple pieces, or when multiple solo piece commissioners get an artist booked.

Can you tell me any time I've booked every single slot an artist had solid? I've not done that, and actually don't intend too.

While it's not my intent to keep others from getting art, from who they want, it's also not my intent to pass up an opportunity that may or may not present itself again to get quality works from artists.

I do not ask to have my works completed first or priority, I do not ask artists to drop their other projects, nor do I ask other commissioners to steer clear of artists I have my sights on.

I see your comment, at this point and time, a non-issue, at least in the sense, no I'm not keeping other people from getting commissions and I'm not "Egotistically"/selfishly or in other terms booking artists with absolutely no regard to other commissioners.

All I have to say is good luck getting a commission from Narse. From what I've heard from someone I know, Narse doesn't take commissions(Is this information 100% accurate? No, nothing more than conjecture. However, it is a solid assumption.). Best to just stop trying and move on to someone else.

To my knowledge, Narse doesn't do commissions, he does art for fun for whomever he wants, I'm not going to make categories for every posability, I just list the artists I want art from, I say commission as I'm always willing to pay for services rendered. I accept gift art, though no one ever seems to want to throw any at me. I think I have one peice from Darkgem and two pieces of gift color of people who wanted to practice on RFTigermode and Unshackledfenrir's lineart.

I would do trades if I ever get back into drawing again. But I don't. So I say commission because that's my primary mode of effect right now.

So that's why I couldn't get a slot, I see...
Well, I hope you'll come up with interesting and new concepts.

Actually, lets break this down. Shiuk had opened an iron artist for 100 commissions. I inquired how many his policy allowed a single commissioner to nab, and I wound up getting 6. I also sweet talked him into a full commission.

I abided by his policy. If you didn't get a commission, that means all 100 spots went. He is currently open however for another full commission (not iron artist). So you still have a chance if you really want it.

Also I'd like to ask why you would assume I didn't know what I was getting done? I have every single piece written out waiting for him to tell me when he's ready for the next. I very RARELY ask an artist for a slot not knowing what I'm going to have them draw. That's usually when I see a hard to get artist open with limited slots and only for a short period.

So I had 7 commissions booked, 6 iron artist, and 1 full. Of that I had 7 full image descriptions ready to send to the artist along with payment.

Of course I also did NOT commission 7 pieces of my iksar. I commissioned 7 pieces with different people's characters, all of whom I had permission to get from the characters owners. So in essence each of those people could just have commissioned Shiuk for their one piece, with me paying for it.

While my category "Conceptualizing" does mean the project(s) are anywhere from me developing an image to the artist reviewing, me modifying, or any stage prior to the artist actually 100% accepting it and being paid, it does not mean that the artist has indeed promised me all those slots. It's also a category where I put "Un-accepted" art. So yeah you can look at this as anything prior to the artist being actually paid/committed.

The wishlist means I may or may not have even talked to the artist yet, In some cases I could probably move the artist to the "Conceptualizing" category as I have indeed shot Zen, as an example, full concepts that he seemed happy with, but he never seems to ever go past that stage. We never get to payment and I never get him to confirm he's accepting a commission, thus he stays in the wishlist section.

I should probably point out, that every single artist/slot listed in this journal on the "NOT PAID (Conceptualizing)" section actually had a full image concept associated with each number per slot, none where asked for without already having the concept ready to go. I double checked the list with my spreadsheet and confirmed, not one single slot there, is without a concept to render.

Sorry swamped! I'm attending a Unix course for a few weeks. We are covering everything from basic commands and file structure to disaster recovery, backup, NIS+ and permissions. Well you are entitled to your opinion. Though allow me to assure you, I have no intention of ever making "another" character. Nor do I have problems figuring out what I want drawn. Most of of what I get is to see it rendered in different artists styles.

If all you see is Ssvanti wanking, then you aren't looking at the gallery. There's much more than that up. In fact I usually only get Ssvanti wanking, alone if I want to test an artist before moving into a more complicated multicharacter piece. Rarer, I'll use that pose if their price scheme is on the high end but I still want something by that artist.

I'm not particularly obsessed, I have gotten other art, but I tend to add other characters, and I definitely do not keep other people from getting commissions.

Most of your comment seems to be totally biased to your personal view of what art should be, on that note I know you do not see art in the same light I do. I look at the colors, the lineart, the technique used by the artist. These aren't just fuck pictures. Though I am sure a majority probably does only see them as such.

I don't mean to offend you, but I'll have to agree a bit with Aquin... Not about the character part, but the fact that you're posting this journal.

What you do with your money is your own business. It's also nice that you're giving back to the community by doing this, helping artists pay their bills... And I'll confess that I do appreciate your pics every now and then. But why on earth would you make a journal stating every single commission you've made/intend to make/want to make?

I can understand wanting to keep track of your commissions, but that can be done in private. One doesn't need a masters degree in mathematics to realize that this commission list falls way outside of $1000. So why do you post this list in public?

The only reason I can see for wanting to post this publicly is to flaunt the fact that you can afford this. Aka. Flaunting your thick wallet.
If people want to see your art, they'll see it when the artist, alternatively you, upload them. There's no real reason to post a complete "Upcoming commissions" list, unless you wish to flaunt the fact that you can afford said commissions. (Or perhaps make your fans wet their pants in anticipation... I don't know)

Let me assure you first and foremost, this journal as well as the journals exactly like it that have been posted over and over since September 29th 2008 are NOT to flaunt. If I wanted to flaunt I'd post the prices, I'd post my annual salary. No, I won't do that as that is not what this is about. This is about art, not the amount of money spent on it. You nor anyone else who see's this journal have any clue what I pay these artists for any of the commissions I get from them. You have no idea if I work out a deal with artists for certain poses/topics/themes/bulk projects/etc. You only have assumptions and guesswork.

Seeing this journal as anything more than a status update, to those that actually care.... well, you are reading way too much into it. It is definitely not the first, and won't be the last, though it is rather large in comparison as it's been quite some time since my last update, and for more than one reason I haven't gotten to posting alot of the art yet. Please also note that the largest list in the journal is indeed received yet not uploaded art. meaning those projects were indeed finished/completed.

I do keep track of my commissions in a spread sheet. I'm also fairly close to setting up an email account just to deal with art as it's obvious to me that notes will never get better as to sorting/filing/etc. However some people actually shoot me notes, YES furries send me notes asking if I'm still commissioning when I go through periods without uploading art. Though that's not why I started the list, I did originally start it to keep track of commissions but it did grow to large to keep track of solely in journals or a single text doc. And no it's not to make anyone wait in anticipation. Lots of people just up and disappear off the site with no word, the journals in lieu of submissions help ensure people know I'm still around.

Honestly if you really want to believe this is about saying I have money.... feel free to keep thinking it. I'm getting tired of explaining this over and over, and I have no intention of stopping the journals. Archiving the journals here are like time capsuled snapshots of what was. It adds a nice touch. Though with the exception of artist who post the prices paid for a commission, you won't find me listing the prices. I don't talk money to anyone other than the artists.

Sorry for the atrociously late reply! It's awesome that you were fortunate enough to get some commissions from him though, I'm sure they'll be excellent and it'd be nice to see something new from him if you post them.

Also, that one commissioning contract that you discussed in another journal, is it's purpose to protect the commissioner or make things easier on both parties?

Honestly both parties, but my main goal is to keep me from dealing with assholes, liars, cheats, and thiefs. I'm almost to the point of taking a more literal form of contract requiring signature, but I'm not quite there yet, and I hope it never comes to that.
