Naylorcast 2
A follow up cast addressing some things that didn't get covered, as well as some follow up questions from the first cast. It addresses useless comments, people pretending to be me on the internet, another question about philosophy and debate, remarks about adult stories with a context, and some Original Life character questions. This one comes in at just under 30 minutes.
And I've learned I need to stop puffing into the mic.

If someone was to write a fanfiction, and if they were to ask of your permission, could they then feature one of your characters? Not as to invade your universe but if they were to appear in their own universe with their own character? I do understand the preference of creating your own story, characters, and original concept. Example, If I play a video game or watch a show, I think about how to manipulate that set universes rules to create my own character with his own powers.
That guy, talking only about how he wanted sex only in his comics, I guess I understand him wanting only sex so he can probably go jerk off to it, but a story is definately better to have before hand. If he truly TRULY wanted it to be completely sex, he could commission it from you whenever you DO open up for selling art. I mean I get wanting to see more sex but seriously, when you read a book, you don't just hop into the middle of six battles, you read and continue reading to know what happened.
Just to say, I totally wrote these while I listened to it sooo, you probably said what I may have mentioned, but I thought it to be ok to voice my opinion as well. I'm sure you'll tell me whether or not you mind me doing so, heh.
OK...being sexually atracted to a 9 year old...I hope you are like 10 or something...maybe 12 at a max...I don't know but that tells me I don't think we should ever meet then. Mostly because I have a little sister, and I don't think I want to have caution of someone sexually fantasizing about her, let alone the already present caution about those in her age group being sexually active. I won't be someone who tells others what they can and can't do/ can or can't believe in, but I still have my own preferences and dislikes and I'd rather not pursue any type of relationship with you.
It also serves to blunt the "punctuation" when people pronounce their "P's" and "S's".
While reading this do know that these are personal views and that they are not intended to offend anyone in any way. I do have my opinions but also I try to keep an opened mind about things. So no intentional offense to anybody.
Impersonating: I would have agree that being impersonating, or having your identity faked, is frustrating. On the subject of people using others character; I know that they might have hero-worship, but there is a point where the hero worship to besmirching line is crossed. For instance on the MMO City of Heroes, there is only one me, I made sure that my character name was on every server, ( don't think anyone can copy me) but I can understand that when you have a popular character or world that some people will love it so much they will want to take it over. They miss the point, its your character, you control them, it is your world not theirs. Me I'm content to just enjoy the media you produce. (BTW love your art style and keep Original Life rolling!)
Adult Artwork: My opinion is that many people have too much opinion about sex comics. That was a good example you made that in the golden years of the adult film industry there was at least a very fair attempt at a story. Now today porn is filmed in a living room with a hand held camcorder; the girl tells her name, lies about her age, and then they have sex. While both are porn, one at least tells a story, they are trying to make it more than just trashy sex, to direct and write a story is an art-form. If people can't appreciate your story and what gratuitous sex you may put in there then they are strained to call themselves a fan of your work, they only like your sex art, and maybe don't appreciate you trying to spin the creative yarn while throwing in some eroticism.
"Weirdos": The Internet is a twisted place, I will admit everyone has a fetish, but if you have a fetish (a deep dark one) you don't need to announce it. Somewhere, someone knows who you are. If they say this kind of thing it could mean a person is potentially mentally unsound. The Furry community is very tolerant of most, but it is true that we do not need to know about how much you like (censored for the worst thing I have heard of). Of course some things are worst than others, for example herms are popularly accepted in the furry community even though most (but not all) "normally sane" people would find it highly revolting, problem is that most furry are by definition "normally sane" they are living breathing human beings that just are in touch with the animal spirit within themselves. Fantasy is fantasy and sometimes people cross that line and don't know how to get back, or never want to willingly come back to reality rules. (See the movie "Misery" for an example of Fantasy Obsessiveness.)
All-in all: Keep up the good work Jay, I enjoyed listening to this Naylorcast, don't let others tear you down. Remember that there are true (yet not insanely fanatical) fans out there that enjoy your work.
Sincerely,
Stallon Becket
(I'm 27, for your age demographics) :3 and I agree on the laptop bit 100% when I sell my music gear.
I've always enjoyed your artwork, You, Shon Howell and James Hardiman and ES/MBR are like the furry holy grail artists out there as I have thuroughly enjoyed. Your views are often pushed sometimes in extremes in your comic Better days/Original life, its very enjoyable, have you ever considered going back and doing "filler strips" for better days or it forever done?
I enjoyed the naylorcast, I'll look for the first one later :3
i been looking at techneek most artest been using but i cant not adapt it in to my own art. i also am to scard to post my art because how it looks.
sorry took this long to post LOL
After listening to this, it did make me do some reflecting, particularly with commenting. I know I comment a lot. As some people have said, when you fave something, it's polite to comment. And considering I fave a LOT of things, it makes no surprise that I comment a lot. And I know a lot of my comments where more then useless. I know a lot of me comments are things like "good job" or "very nice" and while I do mean what I say, they don't have a lot of meat. I try to make better comments, but there are times where I doubt myself. I don't think the comment will come off right, it may upset someone, or it will just be stupid. It makes things very frustrating. So I apologize for the countless comments I've left that were less than ideal and I'll try my best to change that.
Don't agree with your politics but that's neither here nor there. Though it is reassuring to hear that you are well read, which is a rarity :]
A thing that you may be interested by on the subject of fanfiction is a book by Henry Jenkins called Textual Poachers. It's entirely about what drives people to write fanfic, get attached to existing characters and co-opt worlds, etc etc. Jenkins is an unashamed Star Trek fan and has a whole chapter on slash. It's pretty darn awesome.
It's clearly not the thing that gives you artistic satisfaction, but it's insightful nonetheless.
Cheers!
I also agree to your statement of fanfics and using characters in alternate universes. If someone simply just wrote a story about your characters in a context of how they envisioned them is completely almost plagiarizing your own work. Some also write stories or comics basing on how they would have wanted the arc to go. This is a common occurrence in writing fanfiction, however I do have a another stance as well.
For some they need an established universe to use as a base and take things in an entirely new direction. I used to write SWAT Kats Fanfics back when I was in high-school, and after a few years of developing stories and plots I started to make my own charicters, and my own universe to write in. Some never take that step above, and it shows a lack of imaginative creativity, but I wouldn't completely shun the creative ideas of another. The fact that they asked first shows an interest in your work, your characters, and your basis of interactions; as well as the respect that any creative writer, artist, or composer would show another prior to expanding on their concept.
I hope to see how your comics unfold, I have been following your work since the 2nd chapter of Better Days, and to this day have never been disappointed with a story. Also, I must say again how you have restored my faith in the creative furry community.
~Tristan
I noticed you said something about fanfiction but do you welcome fan art?
...
He needs to?
Just let Jay fare as he pleases and let the "many people" speak for themselves.
