"Inadequate" Art (not a "your/my art sucks" journal)
Ever see a piece of art that you look at it and you suddenly realize that even your best piece ever, just could never hold a candle to the time and effort in another piece of art? And suddenly your efforts feel very, very small and insignificant?
Do you know that feeling? I got it when I saw this one. Not for dial-up. ;)

My gut reaction to something like that piece is "wow, imagine how it must have felt to finish that . . . wonder if I could do something that epic?" And it kind of makes you wonder how worthwhile on a spiritual level of sorts, our little one piece wonders are. Or at least it makes ME wonder. it's not a bad, self-pity wonder, but more like a happy curiosity tempered by "real life = like I actually have the time for that . . . . ".
How about you folks, artists or craftspersons or writers or whatnot? Ever see something like that that just drives you a little bit further into wanting to do something truely worthwhile in a different way?

they're huge too :o
But yeah, there's plenty of masterpieces to strive for, and I don't have to go further than FA in search for those either. Well, I know what I'd like to draw, at least.
The other thing I wonder, after finishing that huge a piece of artwork... is the size in relation of the amount of flaws only the artist sees in it? =)
Well since my art broke a while back I guess I had a few occasions like that. I know a lot of peple could do that if they had enough time and didn't have to work on anything else. I know it'd feel great beacuse anytime I used draw something that just made me stay up 24/7 untill it was done.. when it was done.. it always felt good.
Nowadays... I don't know. I think I'm too broke to think I can do well anymore, specailly if it's big. I dream of being able to get anything half as good as yours XD I just enjoy seeing others as much as I can.
You can do something on an epic scale - I'm currently creating an animation with
The answer is merely to take it in small segments.
That's how I feel when I see art by 99% of the artists I'm watching, I know I'll also certainly never reach their level. I just try to not let it get to me, and to continue to try to improve and just enjoy what I do.
I look at things like that and say to myself, "Each one of us contributes his or her own. Together, we make up the beauty that is the Human Race." And you have done something that epic: she runs around the house showing you how much she loves you... That's not finished yet, either... <smile>
Da Moosie
maybe it's jus' the way m'brain's wired but I could never seem ta put comparative judgement on things like that... or be artisitically competitive... I've heard some artists who say things like "one day I'll be even better than so-an-so..." The only person I try ta ever be better than is myself... I guess ta me art is more defined as self expressionalism... and why I never go in fer any art 'contests' or competitions.
I do cars, primarily. The older and rustier, the more attractive (sorry you import guys... I don't like plastic) they are. And, of course, I attend shows and swap meets on a regular basis. Every so often, I'll see something so incredibly original and well-thought-out, it will serve as inspiration for me for months and years to follow. It's why I've chosen to -gasp- swap the motor on my Porsche 924, instead of maintaining the original, and why my '66 Olds has a modified six instead of the ho-hum V8!
Same thing, different medium. *smiles*
*sniff* I miss my Toronado . . . .
You know what I mean. Everyone has a V8 in their classic. I want different!
And yeah, I've had those moments. Many many times. And yes, it really DOES make me want to toss out my art stuffs at times, or just take a bunch of drawings and fling them in the air in a "GAAAH!!!" moment. Other times, I just can't help but to stare and <strike>drool</strike> admire the artwork! I did that once when I was checking out some scroll illumination work by people in the East Kingdom (SCA). I sooooo wanna learn how to do that! =D
Crazy detail.
I'm gonna get hammered and eat supper now.
Good point though, everytime i hear a japanese guitarist... usually it's very creative, a mix of styles....
Hopefully when i get my new toy, i can make some inventive riffs to go with my power Rhythmns or... mellow rhythms whatever the fuck i'm in the mood for... cheers!
So you know- that's never really happened to me.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! o_O
But that *is* a crazy-busy piece of art right there- very talented stuff I must say!
