Solo & Ensemble, II
So, Solo & Ensemble was last Tuesday and today. Here are my events and scores:
TUESDAY
Saxophone Quartet
Fugue in G Minor, J.S. Bach
Rating: 1*
Comments: We did alright. We fell apart several times! We recovered very well, though. This was overall not one of our best performances, but somehow we made it to state. An excellent way to begin the S&E season!
(SATB: I played tenor sax, Katrina played soprano sax)
Saxophone Choir
Itamar Freilach, ???
Rating: 1*
Comments: We did so well this time! I was pretty worried about this one because sometimes our bari rushes or our tenors do weird things but this time it went so smoothly!
(SAAATB: I played alto sax 1, Katrina played soprano sax)
Senior Ensemble
Pollywog's Lake Talk, ???
Rating: 1
Comments: This was okay! We kept together the entire time. The judge's main points were very true: balance between the saxophones and the flute and clarinet, and agreeing on articulations.
(Misc. WW, originally Fl-Ob-Cl-Hn-Bsn, but changed to Fl-ASx-Cl-ASx-BSx)
Show Choir
Footloose (from Footloose) and Finale B (from Rent)
Rating: 1
Comments: We did very well! I wished we could have gone to state! I don't think we DIDN'T deserve it, but things happen. Not enough people "got into it" or "did 100%".
SATURDAY
Bass Solo
Deep River, Trad. Spiritual (arr. Moses Hogan)
Rating: 1
Comments: For my first vocal solo ever, I am very proud of myself! (: The judge mainly commented on my habit of not standing up tall and getting a good breath support. He commented positively on my expressiveness, however.
Tenor/Baritone Duet
Sound the Trumpet, Henry Purcell
Rating: 1*
Comments: Yaaay! I am so excited for TJ and me. This was positive start to TJ's day! And I'm really happy that something vocal for me is going to state. The song was almost perfect, I think. I worked really hard to not make the same breathing mistakes as before. The judge just told us to smile more.
(Tenor-TJ; Baritone-me)
SAB Trio
Joy in the Morning, Linda Spevacik (sp?)
Rating: 1
Comments: Out of my ten events, this was my only Class C one, so 1 is the best we could get! Balance was an issue because our soprano is so quiet, and we needed to keep together, but other than that it was alright.
Alto Saxophone Solo
Concerto in Mi-Flat, A. Glazonov
Rating: 1
Comments: Ehhhh. It was okay! I am proud of myself because I wanted to do that solo since my freshman year and it didn't go too poorly. I was sounding rather bright, unfortunately, and my judge accredited that to my instrument. I did about as well as I expected to, so I'm not upset.
Flute/Alto Saxophone Duet
Suite 6
Rating: 1
This was right after my solo so I was still sounding rather bright and out-of-tune. Jazz did very well; I missed a couple of notes but I dunno. I wish I performed better for her.
Tenor Saxophone Solo
Sonata G Minor, Mvt I & II
Rating: 1*
I had the same judge as my alto solo, and she gave me a perfect score! The performance went without a hitch! I am super excited! My judge invited me to a workshop with her which I am really excited for!
That's it. That took me forever to type. @.@
