Dude, you REALLY need to check in with the artists! It's not rude or anything to ask for a simple update as to what's going on with your commission, Due to the fact YOU PAID FOR IT. Some things slip people's minds (although if a $200 commission slips someone's mind I'd think it was intentional)

So when you get the chance, Round up all the artists you commissioned and sent them this message:
"Hello (artist name here),
I was wondering how far the pic I commissioned you for is coming out. (Pick one of the following) It has been a very long time since I commissioned you and I have not heard anything so far about the commission/It has been a while since I commissioned you and was wanting to know if everything is okay/I have been waiting quite some time for the picture I commissioned you for and I would like to know if you are going to finish it soon, or give me an update to how it is going.

There is nothing wrong with contacting the artists with a question about your commission, ESPECIALLY if you paid up-front and have not been getting updates on it. Just Send em the message and see what's going on, because you need to have contact with the artists you are working with, it's just as important as paying for the picture.

If all else fails, tell them you want a refund, if they won't do it, make it public that the particular artist DID NOT draw your commission and is not NOT giving you your money back, because that kind of behavior is unacceptable.

I concur with Phunkie, I have had some commissionee's that commissioned me and haven't paid and its been years. And Its only fair to ask cause especially if you spent that much on someone you want them to be professional. If they don't give you a refund or explain bring it up to someone.

Yeah, wow... that's awful! You gotta bug those artists! That's beyond unreasonable. A friend of mine has been waiting 9 months for a commission that was promised to be finished for Christmas. Still nothing. x.x
I don't think it's ever excusable for an artist to take so long, and at the bare minimum they need to give status updates or offer a refund if they plan on taking so long.
