Second Life, First Life and the furry persuasion.
Just a quick update for the few of you out there who might be interested. I’m not much around in Second Life anymore. I had a lot of fun in the closed beta for meshes (“real” 3D object use for Second Life) and I was firmly planning on a new and vastly improved series of avatars. I happily learned new skills to be prepared for this: I’m striving for professional level 3D modeling and a lot of other things to reach a new level in my hobby of creating furry 3D characters. With Linden Labs dragging their feet with the release of the mesh feature, I realized how much fun high-end 3D modeling is. Nowadays I spend most of my furry hobby time in Maya, learning and learning and learning.
I might return to Second Life some day, if it survives long enough to release the mesh feature to everybody. In the meantime, I’ll continue to explore how far I can get with high quality 3D. I hope to be able to post some previews of my work soon, first a redesign of my own character, then maybe other ones, too.
It might be a while though: first life takes me around the planet again currently - stressful but fun times. But I'm alive and working harder than ever in what little spare time I have on that whole furry thing which is so silly, and so much fun.

Also, this is Stickman.
But I won't lie, I've yet to figure out good ways to manipulate the AV wireframes in SL to do things like quadruped stuff, or even something as simple as making digitigrade legs, so maybe I'm just on the wrong end of the field here.
anyways, hope all goes well for you and your modeling work. Hope to continue seeing more of it in the future.
And I'm not worried about folks misusing a feature like that - SL is open enough as it is for that to happen with a lot of other features. It'll sort of work, like always :)
"it'll sort of work." haha, sad that SL can be accurately summed up by that little phrase.
