Meh, I never liked Lady Gaga's music. Sorry to hear one of your much loved performer's next album sucks though.

I just can't tell you how many playthroughs of "Paparazzi" or "Poker Face" or "Telephone" or "Just Dance" I have. This whole new album, I haven't even felt a desire to FINISH a playthrough, much less go on repeat. So depressed.

Give it a few play throughs...it might grow on you. I didn't like it to begin with, but now I like -most- of the songs

that's USUALLY the case with a crappy first-time playthrough and me, but if you have any tracks you'd recommend i give a few more shots to, i'd love to hear it. i kind of like "government hooker" and "scheiße", but... that's it so far :/ and i'm so lukewarm about them.

I like Bloody Mary...that's a cool track. Then ya have your standards like Hair and Edge of Glory. Road to Love is good too.

It's just insane. I swear, Paparazzi seems to have tapped into some weird primal urge in me combined with perfect mathematics and musical WHATEVER, I don't know. I just know that the first moment I heard it I wanted to put it on replay for a week, and I STILL love it every time I hear it, though I've heard it 100 times. It's an amazing song. I'm sure there's a science to why it catches me the way it does, like a fish on a hook, but I don't care. I'm happily caught. I love, love that song. Maybe that explains why I'm so pouty about "Born This way", but I can't help it... I am. Maybe Gaga spoiled me.

what tracks do you like? ; ; i know that i tend to not be that impressed at first and then slowly go back and find tracks that i like, but right now i'm just not that impressed, and i'm crying about it. lol.

Well, "Hair" is my fav, closely followed by "Judas" and "The Edge of Glory" and "Born This Way". "Marry the Night" Is also great!

I'm listening to "Hair" now. >.< I can hear why it should be interesting to me, but I just am not being "caught" by the hook. At all. I feel so sad. :( And "Marry the Night" bored me.... "Born this Way" is catchy but much as I don't want to say she ripped off Madonna, um, yes, it sounds so much like "Express Yourself" that I hate it because I actually dislike that song, and it uses the same notes.

So far, "Highway Unicorn" is the only song I even remotely like. I'm this close to cutting myself. LOL.

I haven't really listened to "Highway Unicorn" yet. I'll have to give it a shot. And it's a shame about "Hair". I love that song.

could also be that she was the modern equivalent of the one hit wonder. her 15 seconds of fame is being propped up by going further and, further into weird ass stunts on stage.

don't get me wrong, while i might not enjoy all her music i can admit she has a great voice. It would be a shame if her lack of good writing of songs or, just being a full on sellout (despite what she says she is) ruins her potential.

i just don't feel that this album has any good hooks or anything that grabs me. i definitely think she's showing off her voice more in this album, but so far i'm just like what the fuck, this sounds like... bad midi music added to a great voice. the whole thing is just boring the shit out of me.

yeah from what i have heard of it does seem that way. maybe someone will slap her around and tell her that if you want to get more arty with your music don't try and piss your fans off by going from what they expect to totally what you want for the entire album. I do feel like she has a delicate tightrope to walk, but I mean, this whole album doesn't feel too "out there" or too "artsy" or too anything, it's just... it has NOTHING to me, it's not interesting. It's so fucking dull. I love her voice, her voice is MAPLE SYRUP to me and yet I just don't give a fuck...

I was a Tori Amos fan for 10 years and I loved every album she cranked out... I still love every single song. I bragged that I would never skip any song on a Tori album for the longest time. I thought I'd go there with Gaga, but this album just sucks to me. The songs other people have mentioned in this journal, I've since heard and still am just totally not giving a shit about, and it makes me SAD because I LOVE HER. I think she's amazing. I still think she's amazing, I just think this album sucks. :(

this album might be filler so she can produce something better..........more purposefully bad so mediocre sounds good in comparison. hopefully not as far too many modern pop artists have gone this route

That's actually pretty astute. I mean, I imagine a lot of other stuff that comes out in the meantime won't sound much better, but... maybe I'm all disillusioned, like, Gaga should only release the most awesome things! I know better, but I expected at least one track on the album I'd latch onto and put on repeat. :( I waited a while for this, so I'm just upset I don't have a song I can put on repeat. It feels like filler -- I mean, if other people love some of these tracks, I'm VERY happy for them, and I'm totally okay with that. For me, my sadness just comes from the fact that, like you said, I feel like the whole damn album is filler, so I'm pretty much done listening to it already.

yeah total letdown is the suck. especially with how heavily they frickin hyped the crap outta this album.....i mean i have had to do lady gaga related stuff on farmville while i should be working for the past 2 weeks. I haven't heard much of the album so my overall opinion of it is pretty moot

I had to ask him why it is, since it made no sense to me, but... while I can't quote him, it did make sense at the time. :D Though we'd gotten a Black Angels album that day that was already kind of warped and thus negated the "sounds better" rule, but... :d them's the kicks! I am still now totally understanding why he gets every album on vinyl instead of digitally... it's only a slight, if anything, improvement, though I can tell its' a distinct improvement over CDs. I can't explain it... the vinyls sound amazing, even on the crappy little turntable he has. they sound great.

i personally think it has to do with less steps between live and put on the vinyl. music now goes from the artist to a machine through wires to another machine, gets mixed, through more wires gets remixed again wires then gets concidered finished then pressed onto a cd.

vinyl you had live, goes to mixer then recording. less sterilization by machines and, less of the live sound lost through wires

I think Cory said it had to do with the grooves and how they hold the information. He said digital is a very very very close second, but it blew my mind to hear that vinyl actually is a more solid medium, to this day.

I haven't even heard of that! I got kind of a weird Silent Hill (movie) / Persona 4 vibe from the combination of my dream and my husband's hints... I think it might be fun, if I could work the twist in naturally. But that won't be easy! :D

It's a pretty good anime. A lot of people dislike it for trying to be too many things at once (comedy/action/drama/romance), but IMO it pulls it all off quite well.

You should give it a shot! It definitely sounds like something a lot of people would enjoy reading, including me.

Haha, I'm usually the same way. I get a lot of recommendations from my friends but I always end up turning around and watching something either really outdated or obscure. x3 Angel Beats was one of the few exceptions, and since it's only 13 episodes it's not very time-consuming.

I haven't actually sought her songs out in a while, I am assuming this must be the album with Born This Way on it? I found that song a bit lack-lustre in comparison to her other stuff. I like her fun songs that don't get released into the main charts, like Boys Boys Boys and Eh Eh etc that sorta fun stuff that cheers me up and makes me think about sunshine and Cadilacs.

I'll have to go chase up this new stuff and see what I think about it. I also don't get how people can be so silly about music, in the sense that if their favourite band ever releases a less exciting or pleasing album they still rave about it just for the sake of it. I like that at least you can SAY your true thoughts on the album and not base your opinion on how much you like the artist... like I absolutely adore Muse, but frankly their music has become a lot less awesome to me and the frontman is a fucking loon now singing about alien/government conspiracy.. wut. XD

Totally. Boys Boys Boys, Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I can Say) are two of those songs few people today have STILL never even heard, and it drives me nuts! I love those songs. I love everything on "the Fame Monster", which is why I was so sad to get "Born This Way" and feel totally unattached. It was like how I've read about women having a child and feeling no connection to it. Maybe that's dramatic, but I had gotten this impression that Gaga could spit and I'd want to put a satin bow on it and give it a nickname. Not so with this album. I mean, I'm not calling it crap, but I feel no connection to any of these songs. No connection, whatsoever. I feel nothing.

Muse was my favorite band for years and years -- "Black Holes and Revelations" wasn't their BEST album, to me, but it had some amazing songs on it... "Starlight" is still one of my favorite songs ever, so you can understand why I would look at my favorite pop idol, get a new album, and want to cry when I didn't even want to REPLAY a single track. Muse was a band that I was like, "okay, there's probably not going to be any obsessive singles on here, but I'll like at least one track". Gaga is a monster pop star. I'm just sad. It feels, as someone else in this thread said, like "filler". It's total filler. And not the delicious Oreo cream kind.

As for my dream... it was weird, but I at least hope I have something to go on come November (national novel writing month)... <3 I think it might be fun.

When I like a singer or band I usually go on a crazy hunt for EVERY song they've done, trying to find the lesser heard ones and everything. Like I am really into Keane and I think I know every song out there that's been recorded somehow. So I tried to do the same with Gaga, like her really old stuff that I think she put together on one of her albums with some newer version of them. She clearly actually has good writing capabilities for the pop market for sure and she knows enough about music for the lighter stuff to really work for me. That's what made her a lot different among the manufactureed music out there for me, the fact she has -some- musical talent.

When I first heard the recent Keane EP I was like WTF IS THIS WHAT HAPPENED HERE but after a few tries it grew on me, hopefully the album will redeem itself for you at some point. If not, then she had better deliver better next time! XD We all have those points where we might be less inspired, but have to work anyways... I know I get that way a lot these days with my art, so maybe she's been overwhelmed with all the attention/fame she's built up or something. Now she's finally got herself somewhere she is probably just learning how it all works now too.

Definitely gonna check it out and see what I think though~ I'll let you know what my thoughts are too ;3 and I'm glad we always have fruitful discussions XD! *hugs*

Let's see~! uh sorry for the wall of text, I was writing this as I heard the songs... you probably weren't looking for this sort of analysis but here goes nothing:


Marry the Night (not feeling this one... feels like there's something lacking),

Americano (not really feeling this one either for the same reason),

Judas (chorus is alright, just very standard pop, but the sound is good),

Government Hooker (electronica sound choices are nice, but the melody is rather flat/uninteresting for me... I got bored with this one by the 1 minute mark),

Bad Kids (simple but I'm actually liking the sound when she gets past the silly intro XD sometimes I just like that electric 80s pop sorta sound. Decent song in that regard, nice light melody - effective/fun to sing to)

Fashion of His Love Really similar to "Born This Way" ... which is alright, but I found it a bit lack-lustre as I mentioned. This is very Madonna actually to me. Nice backing sound in that respect, I can listen to this easily :)

Bloody Mary I like her voice on this. Sometimes her voice goes deep and it's not so feminine but this one isn't masculine. I find this one's a bit slow... and needs something to make it stand out also. It's ok, nice change of pace in comparison to the rest of the album... I like the verses being slow, but I think the chorus needs a bit more padding out or a change in tempo... that's just my opinion, I think she could have added more harmonies or something to give it more of a choir type feel. I reckon this song might grow on me though with time

Scheiße This is obviously meant to have elements that you find in German Techno or something until the chorus when she breaks out her inner-Madonna again (also reminds me of Kylie Minogue's 90s stuff. Upbeat song, that's good but bit plain for me considering this is Lady Gaga and she can do better with her sound choices. Good strong pop chorus again though, catchy and bouncy

Hair another one that starts off like "Born This Way" ... that's 2 now. Different style though, Sounds like it ought to be a Bon Jovi song just before the chorus. This song reminds me of the sort-of-recent pop songs/"singers" trying to be Rocky (Miley Cyrus... Taylor Swift (not the rock thing but the melody moreso). This gives me late-80s-90s-pop-rock feel at a lot of points.

Electric Chapel For some reason by about 15 seconds in I was already wanting to skip :x but I actually really the chunky sound when she starts singing the verse. Good melody, loving the fat-electric sounds for this one... then wtf guitars again. Then I'm pleased when they bugger off lol XD! Quite like this one, love her higher notes. She can seriously sing and I don't think they alter her voice that much to get her notes right They probably do in places, nobody is perfect. I like the almost melancholy parts to the verses which are contrasted with those higher parts.

Heavy Metal Lover Doesn't really do much for me... honestly. In fact I am bored with this. The chorus part is very cliche. Yeah I am bored with this. XD Also seriously did she sing "I want your mouth all over my blonde mound"?


The Queen Quite cute. Shows off her voice. Chorus lets the song down for me. I could take this one or leave it I think.

Highway Unicorn Another one I am not feeling at all. Not enough happening with the backing for me. Another that reminds me of something like Jon Bovi, if you take out all the electric bits.

You and I This is a jump back towards her earlier stuff. Has those Country elements to it and is a lot rawer than the rest of the album. For me this disappears into the background but for the genre it's not terrible. I am not a real lover of Country music personally so this isn't something I would listen to. It's pretty standard/uniform for the style. Nothing special in my opinion.

The Edge of Glory too much like Dance music for me, with that 80-soft rock creeping in with the chorus. It's like she stepped into a Dance Anthem. Not particularly taken with this one. Then there was Saxophone o.o where did.. where did that come from?

It's funny how some of my friends complain how they hear her music everywhere, but once it really gets playing they're up dancing and singing along. I laugh at this. Does Lady Gaga have like some underlying bet in her songs that become contagious to even those who never heard of her?

I'm kind of half and half with this album. My current favorites are Judas, Marry the Night and Heavy Metal Lover. Though I'm not a huge fan of the Gaga I like the melodies she comes up with well enough to buy another album :3

well, she's actually christian, from what i can tell. but, you know, uses madonna-style iconography and shock value, so i wouldn't read very much into it. X3

I actually like the songs on this album more then the previous ones. It fits my taste in music more. 8P

I like the whole 90's and 80's retro vibe quite a few songs.

I really enjoyed the first two albums, but I find myself in the same boat as you. It's just not that great of an album. And Judas has one of the most cringe-worthy arrangements I've ever heard. I don't understand how anyone is able to sit through that song, much less enjoy it.

I'm not the type who believes in forced replays of music for appreciation purposes. That seems more like what you'd do if there was a food that was so gross that it made you gag, but you ate it over and over until you acclimated to it; it's still crappy food, but it doesn't seem as bad because you've eaten it a number of times. I don't think music should have to be like that. :<

mmm im 50/50 on it. I got to listen to some of the tracks early from farmville. I like some dislike others. Electric Chapel and The Fashion of His Love seem to be my biggest contenders right now. It's def not what I expected though.

I can kind of get why some people like it, but I just don't, and that was just a bummer since I love Gaga so much. Hopefully some others are finding this to be the greatest album so far, and I won't begrudge them that! I'm just not gonna be listening to it very often.
