Should I Stop Being Vegetarian?
If I say anything stupid...
If only a test! I'm getting much too lazy to live healthily on a vegetarian diet (I'm a terrible wreck), but eating meat again is far harder than it sounds. Last night I was having dreams about stuff like eating meat and not thinking about it, contrasted with saving caterpillars by spending all my money to buy them new swan plants. I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep because my conscience was bothering me! I'd have to become some ignorant hypocrite to happily sacrifice the lives of hundreds of sentient beings for selfish reasons, I don't know how anyone with a shred of empathy can eat animals knowing the process they had gone through. Even in humble little New Zealand, even if I only ate free-range (which would be difficult since we're living on a benefit), the idea of a happy, young animal being killed makes me want to throw my plate against a wall.
This is an extremely difficult philosophical question for me and any help will be appreciated. I need a different perspective, I don't want to eat an animal if I couldn't kill it myself. How would I kill it? Which animals should I eat? Oh I wish I lived on a farm again, then I could make sure they have a happy life. Maybe if I believed in reincarnation it would feel okay, or if I devalued my own life, or if I spent my life giving back what I have taken. I view many other animals as equals, especially mammals. I wouldn't want to die in vain. Life is beautiful, I don't want to destroy that beauty.
I value my life and want as great a chance as possible at it. I want to avoid pain so I can fill my life with pleasure. I want a higher awareness of my world. I want to express that positive energy.
*sigh*

Knowing that, a vegetarian can be seen as not being fully human. They don't eat meat, they can't be gaining the full nutrients they need to live (Iron and what not).
But of coarse they can now! Though pills and supplements and stuff you can get all the the health benefits of eating meat, without eating meat. So being vegetarian it can also be viewed as the opposite as before, more human they those who do eat meat. They've evolved beyond needing to eat fellow animals though the use of science and technology.
So there are many views and that's just the duality of life. It just comes down to principal, whatever you believe in and whether you choose to remain vegetarian or not. Personally, I don't get it. I couldn't be a vegetarian even if I tried. I had a friend who was but ate fish, which I never really understood, but that's just another way. Whatever way you venture neither is wrong and neither is right but both are accepted, so it's a 'catch 22' situation. But that's just what sapience is.
ONLY RECENTLY IN OUR EVOLUTIONARY HISTORY DID WE START EATING MEAT WHICH IS OBVIOUS BECAUSE WE RELY HUGELY ON TOOLS TO HUNT, HAVE CRAPPILY DEVELOPED JAWS, ALMOST ALWAYS NEED TO COOK MEAT THOROUGHLY TO EAT IT SAFELY, SUCK AT DIGESTING MEAT AND WOULD DIE YOUNG IF WE ATE IT AS MUCH AS MUCH AS WE DO PLANT MATTER. There's other stuff but all I've had for breakfast is crackers and eclipse mints so it's hard to think. HUMANS HAVE VERY FLEXIBLE BUT HIGHLY SPECIALISED DIETS. WE CAN LIVE HEALTHILY, IF NOT HEALTHIER (up to 10 years, experts say), ON A PURELY HERBIVOROUS DIET, THE SAME CANNOT BE SAID FOR A PURELY CARNIVOROUS ONE. I'M GONNA BE ARROGANT AND SAY YOU DON'T KNOW HALF OF WHAT I KNOW ABOUT NUTRITION BECAUSE I'VE DONE YEARS OF INTENSE RESEARCH AND DEBATE AND I'VE HAD EXCELLENT HEALTH ON A COMPLETELY PILL-FREE VEGETARIAN DIET UNTIL NOW BECAUSE I'M TOO FUCKING UNMOTIVATED TO BOTHER. YOU CAN GET EVERY NUTRIENT YOU NEED FROM A PLANT-BASED DIET (a little dairy, helps, though) BUT IT TAKES A LOT MORE EFFORT THAN AN OMNIVOROUS ONE WHICH IS HOW WE STARTED EATING MEAT IN THE FIRST PLACE, I SEE NOT NEEDING TO EAT MEAT AS A LUXURY. PEOPLE STILL WORRY ABOUT LOSING THEIR PLACE AT THE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN WHICH IS REASONABLE BUT STUFFING THEMSELVES WITH HIGHLY PROCESSED FACTORY FARM MEAT ISN'T GOING TO MAKE THEM MASTERS OF THEIR WORLD, IF YOU TAKE AWAY A HUMAN'S TECHNOLOGY AND PUT THEM BACK IN AFRICA THEY AREN'T GONNA SURVIVE FOR LONG. I DESPISE OUR RELIANCE ON TECHNOLOGY, WHY ARE WE CONSTANTLY TRYING TO ELIMINATE SELECTION PRESSURE? EUGENICS FOR ALL! Sorry I'm going off track, anyway... THE ONLY THING THAT TRULY MAKES US HUMAN IS OUR GENES AND IF THINGS GO WELL WE WON'T BE HUMAN FOR LONG, RATHER, A GREATER SPECIES AND THE SAME GOES FOR OTHER ANIMALS WE COEXIST WITH. WHAT I BELIEVE IS MOST IMPORTANT IN EVOLUTION IS CONSCIOUSNESS, AWARENESS OF OUR WORLD, WITHOUT THAT WE CAN'T FULLY APPRECIATE IT. I GREATLY APPRECIATE THE LIVES OF ANIMALS BE THEY HUMAN, NON-HUMAN, FRIENDS OR STRANGERS, SO IT'S HARD FOR ME TO SEE THEM LIVE UNHAPPILY AND DIE UNFAIRLY. OF COURSE MY OWN LIFE IS MOST IMPORTANT TO ME.
I felt a strong need to shout there, and I'm sorry for that but I'm sick of people who think like you.
Anyway, I don't believe one should take more than they give. If I were to sacrifice all those animals for food it would have to be worth it.
Humans are herbivores. We have a jaw of a cow (can move sideways).
Cats and dogs can,t do that.
We can't eat raw meat, we have to cook it to eat it. Whereas cats and dogs don't.
Please, STAY A VEGETARIAN!
Thanks! ^^
Omnivores don't have to cook meat to disenfect it.
Humans are just smart and found a way around it.
I think the teeth are another thing.
There is no such thing as sort of vegetarian so no, I am not one.
My dad is the most hardcore vegetarian I have ever seen. When he was 16, he became a vegetarian, went out barefoot witha white robe and preached topeople about being a vegetarian.
I am not sure when he completely stopped preaching... My dad is a moral vegetarian, meaning he doesn't eat meat because he actually cares about the animals themselves. :)
My dad is almost 45, he has been a vegetarian for almost 30 years. I look up to him for that.
Your dad is awesome, btw.
Aww...Was I the only one who said stay a vegetarian?
I actually have some free time today, so I think I will work on your sprite head. (Sorry for being really late ;_;)
