AnthroCon '11 - Review
Ahhh AC, one of the prime Con's I look forward to attending.
I do have some interesting things to say about this year, though not as epic as last year, it did have a good amount of enjoyable notions to look forward to.
As per last year, I drove down with a few friends to Pittsburgh from Toronto on Wednesday, an 8 hour car ride that got us down there around 7pm. Once we were there, we had a hotel booked outside the city so it gave us a chance to rest and relax and just enjoy the prospect of BEING in Pittsburgh from Toronto.
Thursday came and I met up with one of my best friends
MikeMurdock who we had to collect from the airport in the morning before we would check into the Marriott Hotel, a 5 min walk from the con hall which wasn't such a bad thing. Once myself, Mike, and my two buds Zatuichi and Lune, friends from SL, had settled in the room, we ventured down to get some breakfast and get register. We stopped at the old stomping grounds of Au Bon Pain; a classly little dairy breakfast/brunch/lunch place that I went to last year. Mike and I were the only two who went as Zatuichi and Lune had woken up later than us. After Breakfast, we all went to the David Lawrence Convention Center or as noted by the staff "the DLCC". Having pre-reg, I didn't need to wait in line for long, and was quite excited to see another good friend of mine down there,
xhushx. As always, Hush was dressed to impress. I remeber her always wearing a green outfit, bit seeing her in such a lovely red dress was too much to pass up; serious eye-candy.
I met a few other peeps, the most notable were fellow Canadians such as
Horsieboy and
vallhund as well as a bunch of others I didn't get a chance to properly meet. All were from Manitoba, so it was a start on my quest to find some Torontonians.
After that, I ran into a few collage engineers, got into a lecture on Diesel engines, and made off with a bottle of water to quench the humidity that was killing me.
The last person I ran into was
booboobunnygirl though I did not speak much to her, she was an interesting individual I found very interesting despite her interest to keep much about her hidden under some pretty cool sunglasses. Whatever the case was, she was something interesting to speak of, and would be interested to know more about her.
Friday
Or, as I called it, Day of Fur.
I didn't attend opening Cems that morning, I didn't feel up to it after chilling with a bunch of SL friends the evening prior. Missing breakfast I waddled down to the con hall and got some commissions set, once done, I meandered around and met someone I am quite grateful to have run into:
shroompicker or Garnac as his SL name goes. He was a wonderful individual and am glad to have helped him wheel about the con; not easy with carpet.
Okay, let me just say I was responsible for Running a Warhammer 40,000 game that I had spent nearly two weeks organizing in my head...only to have no one show. People came by and were surprise, citing they "should have brought" but I mean, really, if it says on the outline, why not?
It irked me, the only person who did plaid the game way to srsly, and it turned me off the mood.
I did meet a few more artist, especially running into
FlyingFire now, for those who remember what I said before how I wasn't too happy with her because she never got back to me on my commission (she did eventually), well I have to say I was taken back by how wonderful she was as a person, and I had spent a good few months speaking with her and getting to know her; despite being timid, she is very comforting and was quite thrilled to see her. We spent a good deal of time talking about things and she even gave me a tip to making the water I drink more relax. This may sound odd, but for those who heard of the movie "What the &*%$ do we know", it states that the water inside our body shifts and change depending on our mood and makes is think differently, wicked eh?
Saturday
Saturday...sheesh, a lot on my mind this day, events prior had made me a bit edgy, but I was excited none-the-less to be about so many furs and fursuiters.
Missed breakfast and decided to wander the dealers den and artist alley yet again. Got some MLP commissions done for myself and a friend as well as run into some Ottawa furs, whoo! Aside from that, more commissions done, things were pretty cool and I got to catch up a bit with gNAW, who was hella-busy unfortunately and Max Black Rabbit. I plan to get both those guys next year with commissions, so here's hoping!
I did however have one interesting event with Garnac on the evening of Saturday; Furoticon.
Furoticon is a fantasy base "trading-card" game where you control a harem of furs to do your bidding in "sexual" battles against other harmes. Simply put, making your opponent orgasm is the name of the game. I was a bit skeptical, but after picking up a few cards (was only 20 bucks to be put into the draft) and getting a decent deck, I began my game.
I had a female and otherkin (anything not male, female, or herm) deck, an odd combination, but they did quiet well, my two best cards were a demon fox named Iso, and the every so popular and quite powerful Zig Zag. In total, I had 8 furs, 1 treat, and a bunch of lands or "Havens" as they are called. The games are interesting, despite their erotic nature, it holds the same regard as magic the gathering. I had fun, winning two out of three battles, though like always, I messed up on my prize, not exactly picking the "wrong" deck, but probably missing out on a better stable expansion for the deck I had.
Sunday
Slow day.. everything wound down, got some art show viewing with Garnac again, and enjoyed the time I share with many friends that evening. As I said before, the con came and went way too fast, and felt that they should make it a bit longer next year.
I did get two more artists to do some commissions of Cermina,
mai and
dmk who are both exceptional dragon-drawers, so should be fun to see the results.
Special Thanks to many awesome artists and friends I met at the con and spent a wonderful time with. Sadly I don't have much to report on this year. The con seemed to go by relatively quick and I missed out on a few things I wanted to see. However, not all was lost, and I did enjoy a wonderful weekend with close friends, good food, and tons of fur!
There was one casualty however from the Con. One of my Warhammer 40K miniatures went missing. She was a custom built figure I had spent a week working on, and was shocked to find her missing during the final day of the con. I posted a Lost and Found Notice, but so far, no luck.
Please, if anyone who went to AC had a chance to spot her, please IM me, she may not be worth much, but she has a lot of sentimental value and I dare not wish to have to replace her.
By the way, here is the link:

Anyway, with that aside, AC 11 is official finished, the mistakes learn will be used for AC 12, so here's hoping for quick progression till then!
