Eye surgery. Oh my god.
I may have mentioned it before, but I've had kerataconus in my eyes for the past ten years or so. I've been slowly but surely going blind, and it's been weighing pretty heavily on my mind. (Seriously, try watching one of your senses degrade to unusability sometime. It sucks ASS.)
Science marches on, though, and I had the opportunity to try out an experimental procedure that'll halt it in its tracks. I just had it done last Wednesday. We won't know if it worked for a few months, but I'm almost done with recovery now, at least. My corneas still hurt, and I'm sporting the light-sensitive pirate look with both an eyepatch and the blind man glasses at the same time, but you know what? If it works, it'll totally be worth it.
The doctor even said that someday, I might be able to wear glasses to correct my vision. Glasses! Such a simple thing, but something that's been out of my reach forever. I'm crossing my fingers on this one...
