The WeeK After -- What we learned from Anthrocon
14 years ago
How should I put this? Anthrocon was so freakin' fun! Had a great time hanging out with friends, making new ones, seeing others I rarely get to see. Yeah, I think I'll try this one again next year if work lets me out!
Couple of things I'll do differently next time:
1) I will stay at either the Courtyard or the Westin. Yeah, the Westin has the elevator wait issue, but I noticed that really only got bad at prime times. I think I can easily work around that. The Omni was a beautiful hotel, the staff was great and our room was HUGE! The walk down to the Westin wasn't even that bad. However, it was just far enough to prevent random spontaneous suiting. Another thing that made me a bit nervous were the non-con hotel guests. There were a few times they were getting drunkenly belligerent in the lobby with some of the con attendees. Once outside the hotel, the reaction from folks on the street was fantastic! I noticed some of the bus and duck boat tours made their way down to the convention center and even heard the tour guide describe what was going on. That was pretty cool! :)
2) Be in better shape: This one is a given with me anyway, but I want to really better prepare for all the walking involved at this con. I spent a fair amount of time in the Dealers Den, and those floors are really unforgiving. I realize I got a break with the weather this year, so I have to expect more heat along with that walking next year. I'll be ready!
3) Take time to do some of the con - Stupid! -- Didn't make it to any of the dances. Only went to one panel/show. Didn't hit a workshop. None of it. What I did do was hang out with a lot of great people though - something that'll always be my top priority at any con. I think since my hotel was just outside the action zone, it got hard to go back to soak in the con experience. Next year, there'll be some more participation from me. I am NOT doing any hot sauce challenge at Tonic though!
With that, I wrap up my AC experience with a summary of accomplishments grabbed from my LJ. Enjoy!
Calories consumed: Fondue alone had to be over 9000
Calories burned: Not enough to turn me into Slim Goodbody
Number of times I heard the cries of "I need an adult": 126
Number of times I heard "Thriller" played from the ballroom right above our hotel room: 1
Fursuits in room: 4
Miles walked: 20 lightyears
Drinks consumed: 1/3 bottle premium sake, 8 Yuenglings (corrected from LJ post, I forgot the two pints I had at Primanti Bros.), 2 vodka and ojs, 2 some sort of mango/triple sec/vodka concoctions. Oh, and coffee...lots and lots of Dunkin Coffee!
Money spent on food and drinks: Let's just say one of my paychecks will be going towards the food expenses at AC O.o
Hours slept: I'd say about 22 total. Somewhat respectable. You'd think it was a workweek or something!
Hours fursuited: About 5 or 6 - Yeah, I was a weenie this trip :(
Total hours in Pittsburgh: 97
Chance I'll be back to AC next year: Quite likely!

See ya next year, then! :D
Yep, Courtyard will be first target next year for sure!
