As much of a meme as that is, sometimes it's actually true. Hell, sometimes it's true for perfectly legitimate activities performed by people who want privacy. Just wish that one idiot hadn't claimed it. >.<
This is completely wrong and false information. The trace command simply displays the servers your request passes through on their route to the specified destination, as well as the transit times involved. It's a diagnostic tool. Tracert is short for "trace route".
It does not list who is connected to google, or any other site. It does reveal that the kid is connecting through a RoadRunner server in or near El Paso, Texas, and it tells me his IP address. It tells me that his computer takes an fairly long time to talk to the outside. It also tells me to never trust anything you see on youtube! For anyone who really wants to know what tracert is for, just google for tracert wiki.
I just didn't watch the video because viewing IP addresses doesn't seem special to me. I see mine all the time on some forums, as well as everyone else' who goes to that forum. xD
IP addresses are no secret. Mine is 107.9.208.204, at least until my provider decides to change it, which happens about once every 6 to 10 weeks. The thing that made it good is how the kid totally misinterpreted the tracert command. I'm waiting for him to add google.com to his HOSTS file, notice that google no longer works, and make it into an instructional hacker video on how to bring servers down!
The worst part of this video for me was that he kept using http:// in front of google.com when using tracert :( Everything else was funny, but that made me cringe.

Please tell me that was a joke and that he didn't really just use trace route to find out who was looking at google without knowing those were the servers the connection went through to get to google.
I hate fucking youtube "tutorials". Almost 90% using Notepad with a big sized font to give you instructions instead of just FUCKING TALK and most of them teach you how to copy and paste files. FUCKING USEFUL!
Isn't it my understanding that Tracert is merely used to trace how many hops it takes you to go from your computer to the computer you are connecting to? I don't think it's showing him how many people are on Google, but how many routers he is going through to get there and the IP addresses of them.

And this boy is obviously you, right? I'd be surprised if it wasn't you! I mean, it sounds exactly like you!
If they're sharing a server, it's also legal.
If you're breaking into someone else's server, it's illegal, because that crosses into cybercrimes territory.
Except when you have permission.
Tracert stands for "trace route", which shows you how a specific packet goes from YOUR computer to the target site/IP/whatever.
Holy carp that was hilarious.
