When I studied the Japanese language and culture in Korea, I had a chance to read the "Hojou-Ki", a Japanese classical literature which was written in the thirteenth century. The essay has a description on the enormous earthquake which may happened to the Kyoto area in 1185AD. It says that the aftershocks had lasted for more than a year since the occurrence of the main shock. I think it would also be true to the case of the last huge earthquake in the Tohoku area. However careful we may be, what is worse for us is any earthquake happens without any notice in advance. In addition, heat stroke is a huge menace to me because I was born and grown up in a cold place on this planet. Eventually I am not accustomed to that sort of very hot climate. This Summer in Japan would be intolerable for me.

韓国で日本語と日本文化を勉強しました時、13世紀に書かれた日本の古典文学、『方丈記』を読む機会がありました。この随筆には1185年頃京都に発生した大地震記載が見えますが、それには大地震発生後約1年間以上余震が継続したで記録があります。この事は恐らく今回東北地方大地震の場合で同じで見えます。どの様で気をつけても困った事で、地震は何も事前で通告無いで発生する事です。これに加え、酷暑は私には大きい脅威がなります。私は寒い地域で生まれるで育ちましたから、この様な暑い気候に慣れていないです。この日本の夏は私には我慢する事易く無いで思います。

Yeah summer's in full force over here too

I was born and grown up in Russia. Then I moved to live in Alaska, then Seattle. Just after the twenty first century, I moved to Korea. This means that I have not lived in a hot place. A couple of days ago, it was 95F here. I preceived my body loosing water in a very short while under that hotness. I must be careful well enough to avoid getting a broiled Roo this Summer here.

Diet is so important during the summer
Light meals, fresh fruit, and non-dehydrating drinks (water, fruit juice, etc) will help out

Thank you. At 06:30AM (JST) this morning, the temperature has already been coming close to 85F. Shrilling of cicadas adds a hotness to my mind. I spend the Summer time in Japan for the first time. It would be dreadful.

95F seems comfortable for me. I was born in the desert, and I have lived in the desert most of my life. I have been in weather that is over 120F before. It usually stays above 100F all summer here. It is just starting our rainy season here, but that doesn't bring much releif. We are still in the "dog days of summer" ha ha ha. :)

120F?! I felt dizzyziness to see this number. Though I see that you are quite accustomed to high temperature, I wonder how you live well on that climate. Considering your living place, I wonder if you often have garlic and red hot pepper.

Mmm all I can suggest is that you keep cool if you can. It's very hot where I am and it's not easy for me but yeah, you just gotta do best you can. ^^;

Having read a classical Japanese literature, I found an interesting description in it. The essay was written in the early fourteenth century, and it says that Japanese house should be designed well enough to be suitable for Summer. Unless it were well built, no one would be able to stand the heat of Summer. For the ancient Japanese people, heat and high humidity of Summer may have been unbearable. There are various sort of cold noodles in the Japanese cuisines. I will taste them this Summer. I hope you will make some good devices to prevent you from the heat of this hot Season.

Cold weather is not always good for us, and too much heat is also harmful. Watching on Japanese TV programmes, the news reports the victims of heat stroke every day.

The Roo is still alive, although getting to be half-steamed because of very high humidity. I am going to temporarily be back to Korea soon. I will be staying there for about a couple of weeks. Thank you for the comment and I also hope you will enjoy the Summer.
