I'm in an open relationship and it's going on almost 2 years. The idea that your mate has to fulfill every aspect of everything and eclipse all other sexual desires is a total pipe dream, that's my opinion. Also, there's no reason that experimenting with other people should mean that your mate isn't adequate, it could just mean you want to try something different. I mean, people look at porn while they are in otherwise healthy relationships, does that mean they shouldn't be with their partners because something is not being satisfied? Maybe there's some sexual desire that can't be satisfied by a partner, and it needs to be gotten elsewhere, but that doesn't necessarily mean the relationship is doomed or that all other emotional and physical needs aren't being met.

I think it's a good thing to talk about when it comes to dating online artists here - because that stuff happens frequently. Maybe one person won't think it's a big deal because it's nothing new, and another will think it's a huge deal, and because no one's discussed the possibility it causes conflict.

The guy I like and I are really relaxed, so things like drawings of us being naughty with someone else is just fine, we didn't want a lot to change just because we're into each other. We know how special we are to each other, so things don't need to change. If it ever becomes a problem I'm sure we'll bring it up.

It could still be a little awkward though. And a small part of me feels kind of protective of them, but the other 99% doesn't mind, is glad they're having fun and being social, that people like them enough to draw 'em, partner likes the drawing and is all flattered, and I feel luckier knowing that I share the most special thing with them.

Plus, it's just a drawing, and if they knew it would have upset you then it wouldn't have happened.

I guess other. It's never happened before. People have drawn my bf's character in smutty situations where it's implied another character (presumably their own) might bang him, but it's never been a *big secret* or something that would make me jealous. I guess it's about the context too. Fursona stuff can be just about how hot a certain character is, doesn't necessarily mean there's actual attraction between people involved.

I draw smutty stuff with my characters and other friend's characters once in a while anyway because "oh hey, we have similar interests! Let's make our characters do deplorable things to each other!"

Probably 3. Might be jealous over it, but it's still art and I would have thought I'd get to see it. There's not really any privacy here on FA. Best-case scenario would be "congratulations on finding someone else". Some people are very protective of their fursonas and how they're used, to the point that it's like you're using the real them. Whereas I'm one of the people who's not that attached to a fursona (my squirrel could be screwed by a slug and I wouldn't care), so I fail to see the big issue. In fact, if I didn't know the person that the fursona belonged to, I wouldn't be able to distinguish it from any other furry picture. So I only see the art aspect and wish I'd be kept in the loop too.

If I was getting into a serious relationship with someone that was heavy into furry culture, I might have to go over this in particular as a ground rule, but I think it would reflect our real relationship. Some people are okay if their partner has sex with other people so long as they're involved or approve of it. So if that's what our relationship was like in real life, I wouldn't mind if that was reflected in our characters. But if someone went and tried to do it behind my back, I might discuss it with them to understand why they did it, and made sure they were aware of my feelings about it, and try to decide what to do about it in the future.

6: It's complicated. My current significant other and I are nothing but good friends, or so I think. I can put it like this: "I love her and her happiness makes me happy". And the scenario you describe is so common. Most of the times the pic is SO hot and DAMMIT! She is so talented. But sometimes I feel a little jelly that I'm not in her pics so often (well, duh, we aren't an item).

Now, it's her and my character/murrsona/whatev we are talking about, not us, so it would be very silly to get mad because of a picture of our net masks. I'm also conscious that her character has a following and her as an artist has a public that she has to wow (me included :P I'm a fan!) so monopolize her would be a dick move. Moreover, she can have any boyfriends meanwhile we are living apart from each other and I can fool around with guys/girls if someone appropriate shows up; we are not cheating each other cause we aren't even in an open relationship.

Actually had this happen. A close friend of mine asked if my boyfriends would mind if he got a picture of his character and mine being close. Since I'm in an open relationship, and he's a close friend, we're all groovy with it. Not like my boys don't have pics of themselves with some of their friends, too. It's all cool. Drawings are just drawings, and it's an outlet for people to express feelings that they may not otherwise be able to share.
