Zippos are nice... The lifetime warrantee is certainly helpful... An armored vehicle ran over one my Dad gave me. Ripped the upper part clean off, but the bottom half (which had some engraving on it) was pretty much okay... I sent it back to Zippo with a letter explaining what happened. They repaired it and sent it back to me in working order, no charge. Still is working (although now it's got a few more dents in it).

I should probably point out that none of these were Santa gifts. Santa brings candy to rot ones teeth and pencils and papers with which to doodle prOn on. He also doesn't read my letters, unlike Death/Hogfather who would have soooo given me that sword I wanted.

Really, it's educational.

As an aside, Mass Effect is pretty fun, particularly if you are more of an RPG fantatic and not much of a "twitch and spin" sort of gamer. They have a pretty inventive dialogue tree where instead of chosing exactly what your character will say, you pick the emotional content of what it is you "mean" and then the character says something appropriate. It's much more immersive and the difference between a Boy Scout, or a soulless, neck snapping space marine sort is more pronounced and satisfying.

Now if your excuse me, I must ring in the new year in the traditional way of my people (geeks), with a dice tumbling, cheetoh inhaling, dew guzzling table top gaming weekend. And have a great 08 yourself ^,^

I gots a Nintendo Wii, plus some money, I used some of it to get another game for my Wii, and I used the rest of my Christmas money on an Itunes gift card.

Wow, score! Wiis are hard to find even a year after their release. Dunno what kind of games you are interested in, but Nintendo has a game that looks neat derived from the Bleach anime series (see above, I saw it during my brief foray in panic shopping). In talking to the game geek there at the store, he said the latest Zelda game was \"the best Zelda ever\" and that the Super Mario Worlds was very kewl...

I don't get christmas gifts on christmas. not since my first niece was born when i was 16. I got to cook, clean and shovel and clean up after 6 bad kids. But since I got to eat and I for maybe a day got to forget how deep in shit I am at my crib I'd say it was a decent christmas. But yeah, can't remember the last 'gift' i got for christmas.

Hmmm... You make a good point... Christmas isn't be all about material things. I used to think that "more is better" but then I got to see how folks lived from my years in sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. In fact, when I was there, a number of my Christmases weren't too great from a gift perspective either... A box of stale Christmas cookies from Mom back here in the States delivered in January was about as good as it got...

Nothing, besides emails from my close friends mentioning the end-of-year parties they'd all had with each other, but hadn't thought to invite me too as well. The $200 worth presents I'd bought and had expected to hand around are still there on the coffee table... Maybe they'll get returned to the store in February. Spent Xmas day downloading photos of Otters and Weasels from Flickr...

Sorry to hear... I've had similar experiences, where you buy for friends in the expectation of seeing them and/or them gifting you, only to either get nothing in return (not even a note saying thanx) or to not see them... As I mention above though, Christmas doesn't have to be about the material things... Santa could bring memories, or some time with family, or a song heard drifting over a snowy landscape (or through the rain, like here in the Pacific Northwest)...

I Got Hellgate:London and Crysis on PC Diehard 4.0 and Mission Impossible on DVD, Fur for the steering wheel on my car (gets realy cold in the winter) and a one of those carblankets so i dont have to scrape ice of the windshield everytime

I got a book on Special Forces in Iraq, a small clock shaped like a Gee Bee racer (the face is where the radial engine and prop would be) A half dozen See's candy lollipops, and a tin of 5 Rocky Patel '90 cigars. Not too bad.

Gee Bee racers were kewl looking planes (didn't Doolittle race in one?). See's = good candy... There are stores here in the malls and they will give out free samples. The problem is that there is usually a line that stretches to the parking lot to get in.

A "Miracle on 34th Street" specail edition DVD", a little cute cross ordiment, a giant plastic bottle of little cheeseballs to snack my heart out, a large can of Nestle strawyberry milk mix, new pajama bottoms, Lots of anime DVDs (Whole fanservice volumes of "Daphne in the Brillant Blue", "Divergence Eve: The Misaki Chronicles", some "Mahoromatic" DVDs. Also got "Akira".), a calendar with very old vintage movie posters in it (poster dated way, way back before I was born) and a "Tellos: Colossal" book.

Thanks. I did have a nice time with my family over Christmas Eve and Christams itself. I'm now getting ready for New Year's Eve, my next favorite winter-related festivity.

Oh, and I have watched "Eiken" once (own a copy of it on DVD) Sometimes it's almost unbelieveably amazing how breasts are portrayed in animation.

I got a digital camera, a gift certificate for my favorite tattoo shop, The Simpsons Movie on DVD, a couple of gift cards and assorted cookies, candies and other goodiies.

Simpsons Movie was pretty funny (I rented it) and the digital camera sounds kewl!
