Really temped by 3 ,but my vote goes to #2.

Taking the time to look at all of these side-by-side at 100x100 pixel icon size, I have to do with #4.

I feel that even though the text on the pencil is lost at the smaller size,  iudicium_86's more generic approach best captures the conveyance of money for artwork, without seemingly limiting the theme to only furry, or a particular style.

Thank you very much. And I do think people are too quickly voting for which one looks the best at the full resolutions given in the submissions. The two most popular choices so far (2,5) are definitely awesome, but when thinking about them as 100x100 size, many of the details are lost or too small to register properly, such as the animal and dollar signs on the flag for #5. Where as mines I made very much with the 100x100 mindset from the beginning.

I agree completely. I don't think I've ever seen a contest run on FA that wasn't either too vague in the rules (not in this case, but just in general), or where the artist with the most watchers ends up winning, despite the quality.

I noticed that some of the submissions were made to artist's main galleries instead of scraps, meaning that non-watchers browsing new submissions would see it as well.
I would have liked to see the 5 submissions only submitted on this account, in a single grouped image, at 100x100 size, without links to the artist's name. Just vote for a number based on what you like.
After the contest was over, they could then have been submitted by individual artists on their own page.

Suggestions are welcome at any time in this group, but they can only be implemented at a certain stage, and usually nobody thinks to make the suggestion until there is a problem! I'm sorry that I did not think to do this or that nobody mentioned it during the submission stage. However, artists being who they are, and self-promoting, still would have posted a journal saying "hey, there's a contest and I have an entry in it". There's absolutely nothing wrong with self promotion, as this is why the group exists in the first place! So I would not have made that against the rules.

In the end though, I don't think the winner will come about as the one with the most watchers, or if so, it will be because the majority of people truly do prefer that entry. If an artist I followed had an entry in a contest, but I liked another entry better, I'd still vote for the one I liked best.

Your samples at 200x200 leave all five still very readable, but having a second strip underneath showing them at 100x100 could have been a good idea too, just to show what is going to get lost at that size.

I actually did a second grouped pic, showing both sizes, but imgur.com (where the picture is hosted) doesn't allow replacing of a picture and I didn't want to just throw up a separate link, but I guess I will anyway, even though it's too late to make a difference on the votes. *laughs*

The smaller avatars that FA uses are actually 60x60 and not 50x50, which I only discovered by copy-pasting an existing icon into a graphics program. Heh.

Not being an artist myself (I just get a lot of commissions), I tend to ignore contests until it reaches the voting stage, which means I never think to give suggestions at the time the contest is launched. I don't fault anyone who runs a contest, as I don't know of a way to make it truly fair and unbiased either.

I do hope that the people who vote do so because of which image they honestly like the most, though I know for a fact that many people will vote for their 'friend', no matter the quality. Not that I'm suggesting you take the time to do so, but one way to see if this is indeed skewing the results, is to see how many of the voters do not watch this account. In such cases, those voters are usually coming here just to vote for the artist they watch, who submitted a journal asking their watchers to come and vote for them.

In the end, this is meant to be fun, so I'm not trying to sound negative and apologize if I came off that way. I think this account is an awesome idea and very useful for artists and commissioners alike, and any icon will be better than the generic one that FA uses. :)

Well, was sure I'd get at least a bit more votes than the 2-3 lol. But long as one person fully understood my method and purpose behind mines, then I'm happy.

But to add to the topic, at 100x100 most are obviously too small. But even that scale will only be see once, as the icon when visiting the userpage of this group. When put up as a link on other people's pages and journals it's even smaller. 50x50 I believe. At that scale, even #5, which is a good submission, becomes just a blob holding up a barely legible paintbrush. No details.

That 50x50 scale is what will be seen by many more users when we post as being a member of this group or when linking/advertising through profiles and journals. Wish the group owner would collage them together at 100x100 and with 50x50 scales as one image much like you did.

I agree, all five lose detail at 50px. It is hard designing an avatar that scales easily, as the ones best viewed at 50 are generally made at a small size to start with via pixel art. Whichever one wins though, I'll do my best to scale and make more legible if it needs it.

I perfer number 4 only for the sake of the style its in. However everyone has their own taste in style
