More HGTV Stupidity

I'm watching this show and I'm baffled by how a certain couple thinks they can find a one thousand year old Moroccan house in the medina quarter of a Moroccan city... to have the same accommodations of a modern American house.
Seriously WTF? If you want to live somewhere exotic, expect things to be a little different, quit whining or move back home this is embarrassing!

FA+

I can only imagine them complaining about the courtyard being too small, or the kitchen being out of date, and then all I can think is "FUUUCK some of your neighbors are living in shanties!!!"
I'd be buying one of those places up and throwing the best house parties ever!
Pittsburgh is FULL of amazing 100 year old+ Victorian houses, but people are often to immediately overlook them because they lack things like centralized heat/AC, enough garages, etc. If I could afford one, I would get one, and then devote many of my years to make it wonderful like when it was first built. I wish people could learn to be more accepting of true URBAN living again, rather than trying to import suburban lifestyles into cities.
In Houston, there was an area full of historic homes where frequently folks would pay huge prices for these Victorian era mansions, then pay even more to tear them down and build modern Victorian inspired houses in the Frankenstein style of architecture that is currently in vogue.
In Austin, it's little craftsman style bungalows from the 20s-40s that are constantly getting the fuck renovated out of them or just plain torn down.
Stupid trends destroying historic homes.
Modernization always makes me cringe, too. Unless they can manage to do it really well. There's a plantation home in Louisiana which was given to the state as a museum, but which had a full restoration in the 50s. And the woman who did it electrified the original fixtures (and the whole house, invisibly), installed modern plumbing to the original kitchen set up, and turned a small closet into an indoor bathroom. She even added air conditioning in such a way as to hide the vents beneath the floorboards. Everything modern and comfortable, but hidden and respectful of the original.
