Dunno about drawing, but I tend not to discuss my writing porn.

I'll talk about my non-porn stuff first.

It's just depends on how comfortable you are with them. Anyone you have to hide a portion of your life from isn't someone who should be close to you because if they can't like the real you then they aren't worth your time.

I should ditch my family then? I don't know how happy they would be about my stories. :D

Keeping secrets isn't anything new. "I draw porn" is a minor secret, I'd say. It would be different if you had a side job as a webcam whore or something.

It's without a damn doubt family is under different consideration than friends which is what he's talking about and I didn't think I needed to make that discussion cause no one would be stupid enough to even think about family when the topic wasn't about family. Jesus, you people.

I'm still hiding "the real me", am I not? Plenty of people break bonds with their family due to differences in opinion on tense issues such as religion or sexuality, after all.

I haven't had to deal with this personally, but my advice would be to treat it as as little a "deal" as possible.

Well, I don't mind coming off as a pervert, so I tell people I'm an artist and if someone asked me what kind I say furry, and sometimes adult stuff.

I don't tell my family. My close friends know, though. The one non-furry site I visit also knows that I do adult content, and if they don't like it... well, they're all big boys there, they can deal with it.

I'm going to have to agree. It's not a big deal. So definitely avoid the TMI factor.

Kinda the same how not to explain things:
"I draw porn. I put really explicit, juicy stuff on paper that is sooooo not-appropriate for kids and probably there's a bunch of people out there who wank to it and have to clean their keyboards."

Potentially a better way:
"I draw well enough that thousands of people love my work and watch for it. I draw porn too, but hey, my fans and I like sex on occasion. Who doesn't?"

Nothings a big thing unless it's made into a big thing. :) If they act shocked, you can hopefully be genuinely surprised.

My inlaws know that I draw porn to make money, and they're cool with it but they know that's not all I do, so. My good friends know and we joke about it. It's not something I'd probably bring up to other people until I've gotten to know them though.

if theyre ok with your usual drawings they would be ok with that im guessing, especially with your talent.

my drawing hobbies are my skeletons in the closet, no one ones, no one is told. and if they're told .. it's said in a joke manner or kept as just plain nudity.

Well, maybe I'm in the different kind of friendship connection, since the ones I know has a FA account and sees the few times I update my gallery. My girlfriend is pretty open about it, since she also did a couple of porns in her art.

I say I'm an Illustrator because well, that's what I went to college for, and it's technically what I do. Not Fine Art. However, I wouldn't tell most people I draw porn if I were you. You draw more than porn, talk about that. Unless you get a feeling from them that they wouldn't much care, in which case you can straight-up say "I draw porn for a living. It pays the bills until I can find better work." or say you draw porn while you build up a portfolio, or whatever. Or if you enjoy drawing porn, just say you draw porn for a living. >>;

While I dont draw any porn. I don't tell people I draw at all.

However if I got a partner that was also an artist. I'd tell them so I could get lessons.

I don't tell family members, but all my good friends know what I draw.

Well First Off , about 99% of the entire Worlds teen to adult population think about sex .... SO that being said 'Perverts' are the people that grope other people on the bus ,not an artist making a Sexual picture. So I tell people when getting to know them I'm an Artist & I draw Adult works as well as Clean ... Because Even Walt Disney Drew Porn (( not referencing Family Guy )) . I also Tell them 'Adult' Doesn't Rightly mean 'porn' because many ... TOO MANY in fact connect Nudity with Sex ... & thats WRONG ,but I add nude Solo pics & Gore into adult . But the point is that as an artist your entitled to be Allowed to Draw What you want ... Certain things can't be shown on FA or other public places , But you can still draw it & if someone thinks your a pervert for your tastes or Practices ... then ask them How often they think about someone Going Down on them or up in some cases . As long as your not hurting anyone , NO ONE has the right to judge you on your hobbies .

I rarely draw porn, and if I do it's only for me and maybe one other person. Not because I'm against porn, I'm all for it. I just don't want t be known as that guy who draws bobs.

But I don't tell anyone that I do anything really. Mainly because if someone knows you can do something, then they expect you to. And I'm lazy.

I do not broach the subject with non-furries, ever ever ever. But then I'm 110% people-proof, so I guess it's not much of an issue for me.

I met some new people through a social site recently, and ended up mentioning more and more about what I do. When I was asked what I drew, I explained I "had a little bit of an obscure job drawing adult/mature rated art for individual customers". The guys I told had no problem and even asked to see it, so I picked out some mild nudity to show them. They were fine with it, subject broached and moved along.

I would say it is up to you to find the right time if or when to tell someone about what you do. At first, someone may judge you for it early on, I think women tend to be less comfortable with it (I am talking outside of FA and hentai sites of course, those you meet in real-life) so there is a higher element of them being judgemental about it. Take your time and just approach the subject gently, since it is part of who you are and it will have to come out eventually however much or little. If you leave it a while, it means the person is less likely to get a bad idea about you and flee. So try and time it right I guess.

People don't shock me at all and haven't done for years now. The internet got to me when I was still really young, and I got over the shock of finding out about all sorts of fetishes and strange characters out there. If someone says they LARP or draw porn or, I don't know... like to have sex with dolls or something I'll probably ask them about it rather than shy away from it. That's just my nature.

I have started leaning toward drawing more adult art mostly pin ups , I even asked acouple of artist if they had any advice on drawing adult art ( pretty vauge question huh ?) . Me and a friend had a dicussion on something like this if you draw mostly adult art then they over look your non adult art he said my reply was if they look at any of your art its a win.

i guess its the artist choice whether they want to draw it or not.

Leave it half hidden and when they ask answer truthfully. Though, most of mine is for someone so saying "its for someone" makes it less perverse.

I found that the adult art goes over better than the children's material. If you're a middle aged male drawing things for children, some people find it odd. If you draw adult stuff, that's what people expect you to be drawing anyway!

there's the conundrum, i have to leave the adult part out, cuz it always will come off as creepy. i have to somewhat lie, always say "i'm a cartoonist" or "I'm an animator" which is true! i do both cartooning and animating... but i also draw naked dog women.

and I know better to publicize my hobby of drawing naked dog women ;D
