Uh, if you have anything important connected to your Steam, like using your credit card to buy anything, it's kind of something to at least give ONE shit about.

Mercifully, Valve has the good sense to seriously encrypt CC# information and salt password data. If anyone is effected by this at all, it's going to be people who didn't opt in to the account password protection deal.

Anyway, I'm glad I only have steam account to play games online. I don't have a registered creditcard there or purchase games.
And all information I have there is the same information I have practically every public place.
Thankfully I'll only need to change passwords... Again... Cuz somebody hijacked my account recently.

So I try to change my password and Steam cannot "process that request at this time"? WTF?
I doubt I was one of the ones hacked, but that's still a kick in the pants.

Well, the Steam Forums were hacked, but that's not the same thing as Steam itself being hacked. Steam itself worked perfectly fine, and...so far, there's not really need to be alarmed. Just take some precautions, usual stuff. Take 2 pills, call in the morning.

Steam forums were hacked, and information was leaked. Information like credit cards. Nothing has happened yet, but it could.

"We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.

We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely."

...so far, there's no evidence that supports any information was leaked. That may change, but as the situation stands, their security held up.

They obtained access to the database, but that does not mean they were able to get anything off it. So, keep an eye on those statements and charges, but aside from that....

steamguard, and the password salting, thats some good protection there.
it goes to show hackers could get anybody, im sad steam got hit and i did change my passes too, i hope they get through it and whatnot, and hey who knows! 10 bucks added to steam wallet maybe? thatd rooock

Helps to get the games where steam and drm are stripped out, runs alot faster and no need for making an account, giving personal and credit information, they dont need it.

Yeah they suck.

I have never purchased anything on steam (Only game I have BOUGHT for steam was TF2, and I bought a physical copy of it :D). But I shall still fiddle with my password X: thank you for the heads up.

Well they don't know until someone reports suspicious actions. So until then, they will assume everything is alright.

I thought it only affected your steam forum password and user, and would only effect you if your forum and steam stuff was the same?

Cause my password is unique as hell and I will cry if I have to change it ;_;

For now there isn't any case of someone's steam account in foul play so... just to keep aware of it.
