MFF Overview
Against fears that I'd be getting tired of cons, MFF revealed itself to be the most inspiring and uplifting event of the year. I can't get over how total and open I feel with my MFF-set; even in the most bleak O'Hare glass-and-concrete hotel suburb there's never a dull moment with a crew of people who "get it," who have sought the same connections after years of self-repression and seemingly strange adolescent desires.
was the most gracious and helpful recently-ex-Chicagoan who showed us around to all the cool restaurants, arcades, music stores, and karaoke bars.
coordinated and cheered us on into attending the con in the first place, and drove many of us around (along with cube) to and fro across the suburbs and under the runways of Chicagoland.
Against my expectations and my inability to dance with any sort of cohesive style, I enjoyed the dances immensely. It's only at cons that my group of friends are the boldest and most scandalous dancers. Seriously, it seems most other furries just stand alone and shuffle side-to-side. Get out there and hump something!
It was a pleasure to get invited to a "gear party," a sort of con-within-a-con, where aficionados of all things leather, rubber and uniform gathered to hang out with their kin. Despite lurid rumors, it was just a space where like-minded folks could hang out in their favorite fetish gear, from the custom rubber body suit to the off-the-shelf football jersey: Some might find it strange, but imagine how one might feel silently carrying a connection to the feel of rubber or the design of a motorcycle uniform. How wonderful that they can connect and feel a sense of community! A friend/good dog there graciously helped me into a gag-integrated pup-play mask so that I might feel welcome among their kin. I can't say I found it especially sexy (okay, a little,) but I was grateful for the exposure to this culture.
Above all, the best moments were spent just hanging out and drawing with my friends old and new: Clup, atmus23, Madast, r-mutt, cubetriangle, birds, marcothecat, Thomas Blue, Ryou, thatoneguy297, Calvester, Fvorte, ianjay, and so many others! Sorry if I forgot anyone, rest assured that I love you all!
