Final PC upgrade incoming: new monitor

As a final purchase to end my crazy buying spree, I've ordered myself a Dell Ultrasharp 24" monitor, after recommendations from my friend who's doing freelance illustration work.
I should have it somewhere next week-ish, I'm looking forward to it... currently I'm working with a 6 year old Samsung Syncmaster 24", but with color calibration being the bane of my current work, I no longer trust that monitor either. Having a IPS screen with a very accurate STANDARD setting would benefit me greatly in that regard, even if I'm using the Cintiq to draw. I'd have an accurate second screen to monitor my colors this way, and can try to match the majority of the Cintiq's colors with it as well.
I can't waaaait! :x
On a sidenote in regard to yesterday's journal:
- unsubbed from WoW, properly this time. I probably skipped a step or two last time when they kept asking for reasons why I'm quitting.
- amounts of shits given about SWOTOR = 0. I-don't-like-Star-Wars. My next MMORPG will be Guild Wars 2. Untill then, no MMORPGs for me anymore. Charr Engineer INC!

The only way to make ideal use of it would be to go back to using my intuos3, but with the Cintiq 21UX staring at me... no way. :p Then I'd rather make the extra effort to check the colors on an extra screen, Cintiq is far too fun to put aside now. :p

Did you get the 2410 or the 2412? The 2410 has a wider color gamut than the 2412 and is a little better for an artist but you would never know the difference unless you have them side-by-side (I have the 2410 and 2411 next to each other in a dual-monitor setup).

It'll be a 2412 probably, the 2410 is more expensive and a tad out of my budget right now. The 2412 will be more than enough of an upgrade for me.

What are you using now, out of curiosity? I know when I got ahold of my first Dell UltraSharp, I was very pleasantly surprised at the color saturation, especially in the reds. Dell has been known to make some crappy products but the upper-end UltraSharps are definitely not among them. I hope you'll post your impression of it when you've got it hooked up. ^.^

Samsung Syncmaster 2343NW :x It's still a VGA port for crying out loud! I remember getting this one around the time I was playing Guild Wars, so it could be 5 years old. It's not baaad, but definitely not suitable for arting anymore.

You're definitely in for a treat, then. You'll get a moderate to huge upgrade in sharpness (depending on various factors) since DVI passes a native 1:1 pixel signal versus the digital > analog > digital of VGA . Being an artist, you should see the difference immediately.
