Rats can show empathy including complex empathy. They are able to put themselves in the shoes of their buddies to help them out. They also like to share.

(They are able to use some device to bring down the high pitched laugh that our ears cannot normally detect and the scientist shows that rats do laugh. Scientific fact.)
