Yipes! Stripes!

I've spent most of the last 12 hours watching Warner Bros. shorts- not a bad way to spend the day on the sofa, fighting a little cold.
In my hours in front of the TV & computer today, I've come to the decision that Cool Cat is under-appreciated. It's not his fault that he pales in comparison to Bugs, Daffy, and all of those other characters that found their legs in the Golden Age. It's not his fault that he was voiced by Larry Stortch instead of Mel Blanc. It's not his fault that for some reason he was a '50s beatnik in the late '60s and therefore was probably pretty uncool at the time.
If you compare Cool Cat to the other shorts (and some of the hackey TV animation) that were being produced at the time, he's not so bad. He's a pretty cool, pretty laid-back guy. I'd even say that he could face off against the Pink Panther and hold his own in the cool department. Even if he is sort of a Panther ripoff.
So, in honor of Cool Cat, I've made him my avatar. I salute you, you stripey, beret-wearing, mechanical elephant befriender!
