Star Trek Online furry fleet! Details within!
A fellow TrekFur known as Riley Wolff is on the way to creating "the Star Furderation" a furry/furry-friendly fleet within the online boldly-going simulator Star Trek Online! The group is aimed at being a "well-organized yet laid-back" all-furry fleet, although fandom-friendly non-furs are allowed admission provided they don't cause any drama.
The fleet itself wll be a Federation fleet (as implied by the name), and the Caitian race is not required. It will be divided into a number of task groups each dedicated to things like PvP, PvE, leveling, crafting, and the like.
For those of you who don't already own a copy of ST: O but would like to get in on this, it may be worth noting that Steam are currently offering a half-price sale on it, and will be until January 2nd: http://store.steampowered.com/app/901222/
Purchasing this package will allow you thirty days of free play and 500 Cryptic points, which will allow new recruits to buy add-ons within the game. Also, the game itself will reportedly become free-to-play on January 17th!
If you are interested in joining this fleet, feel free to contact
rylzwulf either here on FA, or here at his Steam account.
Edit: Some more information regarding the free-to-play switchover, from Riley:
"Touching up here, the 500 Cryptic points has been confirmed to new guys I've already gotten into the game. Also, to play, even though you do have the 30 days, you MUST subscribe and use a credit card or paypal. HOWEVER, it WILL NOT charge your account until those 30 days are over. The period of time til the launch of ST:O F2P will be easily covered by the 30 days. You can just subscribe, log in tha launcher and simply cancel the subscription afterwards. No charge."
Edit 2: Wrath of Khan: More from Rear Admiral Wolff: "I just went to STO's main site, and for players who were subscribed previously but canceled, EVEN THE FREE MONTH, will be able to play the game as if it were F2P starting Jan 5.

Edit 6: Return of the Jedi: The Furderation's FA page is up and running!

Edit 4: As you'll likely already have figured out, Star Trek Online is now free to play! So, for those of you who like online gaming as well as Star Trek and furries but lack funds for monthly MMO bills, money is no longer an obstacle!
Live long and prosper!

People who don't want to spent a cent on the game will be able to play it for no fee at all once the F2P goes live on January 17th. That's the whole principle of Free To Play, RylzWulf: you can play the game without having to pay anything, and the company hopes that, as you play, you will love the game enough to want to spend some many on in-game stuff, thus they hope to make more money in the long run than with a pay-to-play model.
Besides, STO's F2P FAQ (located her: http://www.startrekonline.com/f2p_faq), states it clearly:
Q: What is Free-to-Play?
Simply, anyone can play Star Trek Online at no cost. No subscription is required. You don't even have to buy the game. You can download and play for free!
So, as I said on my first post, purchasing it now at half price when you intend to be a F2P player is silly, since you'll be spending money uselessly.
Though, perhaps you should update the journal to inform people of this, so nobody pays good money for nothing?
May wanna add this to the journal, for safe measure.
So, if you want in on this, I suggest getting the game and installing it so that on January 17th you are ready to play.
I myself already have the game. Got it when it came out, tried it for the month. I would have paid to play, but having 2 other MMOs that I pay to play (WoW and CoH), I couldn't afford a third.
On 1/17, I'll go in and make a new character (didn't quite like the one I had back then).
On another note: are any of you with StarFleet International? http://www.sfi.org
So, now I play Star Trek Online and I hope to make up for the failures of the societies/guilds I was in in those two games.
I can't wait
