A third way

I do not support SOPA or PIPA. I had seen quite a lot of fan anime videos on YouTube been muted or even outright deleted (the latter action far more often) based on copyright infringement clauses, despite the videos themselves not even forming a full episode (The fan videos tend to be no longer than 3 minutes, being formed of clips from multiple episodes, a few clips sometimes repeated, or again, multiple clips made from the same scene.) In essence, the copyright holders are punishing their fans for their support. (This is not new, by the way.) Another instance of excessive control is YouTube deleting controversial videos, ranging from Red China's using a "cute" girl's appearance with a "not cute" girl's voice in the 2008 Olympics to one describing United States torture tactics on prisoners. (Thankfully, the latter has been reuploaded after mass pressure.) In fact, not only highly controversial websites, including NaturalNews.com, InfoWars.com, and GBATemp.net, can be easily shut down (They are only up due to the rapidly weakening, or again brain-dead, Bill of Rights.), but other websites can be shut down by simply carrying a link to these sites. In Megami Tensei terms, SOPA and PIPA represent (the old forme of) Law.
I do not support Anonymous. While they have been creating good press by opposing Sony's excessive measures against their system getting hacked alongside their opposition to SOPA and PIPA, Anonymous is not much better. Those who have been "attacked" by 4chan and Encyclopedia Dramatica know that Anonymous is based on "lulz," which they define: "the anguish of a laughed-at victim transforms lol into lulz, making it longer, girthier, and more pleasurable". Their tactics, not restricted to mere hacking, also include SPAM flooding, server overloading, denial of service, linking to "shock" material, and simple general mockery. While they may claim to do this "for great justice" some of the time), their victims include Christians, Jews, "otaku," beginning artists, and furries (especially fat-furs and infato-furs). In fact, a few FurAFfinity residents were victims to Anonymous due to either mistakes or simply doing what you love. The fact that Anonymous is essentially telling these people to commit suicide and get their "filth" off the Internet show some hypocrisy: Anonymous thinks that shock images (and pornography in general) are okay to display, yet images of fat or inflated furries must be purged on sight. In Megami Tensei terms, Anonymous represents Chaos.
The use of Megami Tensei terms in this Journal entry is deliberate. There is a "Neutral" alignment which says that rules are needed, yet not at the expense of personal freedom. Me, that Neutral alignment is GNU, that is, the free software movement. You probably already heard the adage: "When we speak of 'free software', we're talking about freedom, not price." GNU's main focus is that people should be free to use, edit and learn from software, effectively improving computer science in general. In fact, their GNU license is exemplary of the Neutral alignment: the license makes rules specifically so that others would not take away your freedoms. Their philosophy, however, led them to pursue broader goals. For example, GNU is against "Digital Right Management" (DRM), using the more appropriate term of "Digital Restrictions Management." Those who wrestled with DRM, despite acquiring the software legitimately, know how restricting DRM can be. In fact, even GNU is protesting against SOPA and PIPA, though in form of legitimate protest.
While the fight seems to be SOPA vs. Anonymous, I shall stand by the 3rd way: GNU.
