Um... hello?

Am I the only one who's greatly bothered by the notion that a piece of clean, fun, cartoon artwork can take up to a year to get 100 faves while a piece of outright porn can get over 2000 faves in less than a month?
Seriously. Am I the only one? I'm starting to think I'm ODing on crazy pills over here.

There are almost as many clean or porn censored sites as mature ones. The issues are usually the same though, it doesn't mean the quality of art is going to be any better.
Favorites are meaningless facebook level e-penis points anyway. Why should you care?
I don't care about not getting favorites myself anymore. It's just that favorites are the clearest indicator (at least on this website) as to what people as a whole like and don't like. And clearly people like porn a lot more than clean art here. That's not always the case of course, as I've seen decent work with thousands of faves. But most of the time it's the porn that gets the e-penis points.

And then you have low-tier fetish material that while technically not involving sex or nudity at all, is mostly still designed to sate the fetish fans. Just search for 'pawshots' or 'macro' or really a lot of things here.
I don't think of fetish material as porn. It's just weird sometimes is all.
It doesn't really bother me because even when I draw porn I STILL don't get any hits!
Life's weird like that.
I've wondered how furs feel about this whole image thing. Is the sex/pron art part of the fandom a driving force to them, and this group is saying 'it isn't all about sex' when only a marginal part of it is not about sex to them.
Or is it that the image we want to reflect on the fandom is exactly what it is--that the mature art exists and people dig it, but if somehow it never existed, none of us would care. I fall in the latter group, and feel I'd get a different answer to this image problem based on which fur I asked and what time of day it is.
I just don't get the status of things either regarding this.
It seems like one of those things people try to pretend doesn't exist and that no one wants to talk about. That's why I don't think it'll ever change at all. =/
When you get down to it, geeks are horny people. This is not something that's limited to furry in the least, and it's not all about sex.
You can be a clean artist, clean fursuiter, clean puppeteer, clean anything and still get some notoriety in the fandom and expand your skill/trade/hobby. It's actually rather ignorant to think the whole world should stop the same place you do on that. People are people. Personally, I'd love to see zero juggalo furs, just because that shit annoys me, but I don't go around bemoaning all the fat klowns. I'm not trying to devote a website to exclude them, and I certainly don't think the fandom should shun them exclusively by trying to portray them as non-existent to outsiders. That's just foolishness!
Back to my other point though, how much of the anime fandom is hentai and dirty manga based? How much of the Star Trek fandom is slash fiction?
What furry has going for it, which is AWESOME, is we don't rely entirely on some segment of the entertainment industry to give us new material. We aren't all waiting around a Sony, Viacom, LucasArts booth at a con just to get a glimpse of what's new. We are our own supplier, and that means popular stuff (angst, raver shit, warfare themes) will be more common in our produced media. Sex is popular. Sex is fun. Of course it's going to be in there.
If you are hosting a convention with a lot of dork sex and the like going on, you have to have some decency standards, keep minors and adults separate when needed, but you only look schizo or like you have something to hide if you deny it up and down and two minutes with google can prove you wrong.
Honesty sometimes works. You'll look like a deviant either way, best be a humble one.
I guess sometimes the clean people have to work harder for their notoriety. I have a tendency of thinking of selling sex in art communities as cheap. Drawing porn and making boatloads of money off of it is too easy. Not to say good adult artists aren't working hard on their craft but... I dunno.
Heck, even at something supposedly sterilized and strictly commercial like E3 you have 'booth babes' who will lure in visitors to a vendor's table by use of cleavage revealing outfits. It's super effective!
I think art wise, bad porn is all too common, but good porn artists are usually also good artist. The biggest issue in furry is artists tend to plateau once the stuff they draw tends to look good enough to sell well and people like their 'style'. This happens to both clean and not artists, but given commission rates usually tilt towards adult stuff, I think that gets more noticeable.
Also remember, furry has a lot of grounding in roleplay mucks and whatnot too, where sex is kind of the order of the day there, because frankly if you put that much effort into roleplay for a non-masturbatory reason, there's probably something wrong with you.
Sheezy Art used to be like FA until the server admin made all X art get deleted without consent or warning. Then FA was born.
Furry Art Pile (FAP?), ArtSpots.... not many I know on them, and ArtSpots is a @*$)! to get accepted into.
I only did one porn pic as therapy for an ex that was abusive and only thought of his nethers. I didn't post it. I don't like outright porn. Soft porn or suggestive R art without explicit acts is better.
Seems not everyone thinks that way though. None of my art really gets many favorites on dA either. I'm hardly a good artist though.
An art website like FA mixed with a few DA features mixed with an explicit artwork ban would be ideal, but as far as I know nothing like that exists. I'll probably migrate off this site eventually once I finish my personal website and figure out some decent gallery coding or whatever.
I didn't understand herms or shemales or other gender benders much either, I was really looking for more wholesome or R nudity art, not um...... trying to work out herm yiff.
Now it seems like we're the pit of every fetish possible that other fandoms like star wars/sci fi would shun. Baby fur or underage art to me should frankly be illegal as it's pedophilia with ears and a tail. Or free X rated art, just ears and a tail on. Not everyone agrees.
Granted, you need SOME flavors and not just PG or G rated art should exist. But THIS much X-rated?
My boyfriend is really my "babysitter" at cons, as far as my mom is concerned. So I don't go to room parties or "yiffing". ^-^;;
Sometimes I fav very cutesy or innocent or arty type stuff just so all my favorites aren't fursuits or porn.
