Wow man, that thing sounds awesome. I've never really done any proper mixing but would still be fun to use once i got to grips with it. I need a better computer though! XD

I can suggest Mackie Tracktion and FL Studio. Or the freeware alternative LMMS (Linux Multimedia Studio, that comes for windows as well). LMMS is what i use most of the time. But of course you also need a propper PC with enough RAM and a good low latency soundcard.
oh well. I have come to the conclusion that the only way to eleminate all the high costs of a propper DAW is to get a Hardware studio "all in one" thing. There was a time when "bedroom studio" meant that somebody had a 4 Track recorder or Portastidio. And there are even 6 & 8 Track versions of that which sound absolutely amazing because you record onto standard High Bias MC tapes. These mashines did record on a higher tapespeed that gave you better soundquality but you only had a quarter or the original estimated time because the tape is being recorder into one direction only. All of the tracks of a cassette is being used. The DBX noise reduction makes it sound hiss-free and also gives the signal more air. I have one of these mashines and i am also planning to hook up all my hardware synths into this baby. Because sometiems i really hate software sequencers :P

If you prefer digital, there are also modern flash based Portastudios but i think they only record in standard CD "quality" 44.1 khz and 16 bit resolution.

Well my current PC is definetely out of the question, but i plan on buying a new one fairly soon anyway as it is getting a bit old! I managed to get the FL Studio Demo up and running and had a go with it, but i need to learn how to use it properly. I've never heard of Mackie Tracktion so i'll look into that and i tried to get LMMS running on my PC but it wouldn't have it! XD Thanks for the advice on that though. :)

If i could afford it, i'd probably have a "bedroom studio" of my own, but when it comes to mixing and all the hardware i'm pretty much, admittedly, a n00b.

don't worry. The learning curve is pretty easygoing. When i started i literally had no idea about anything. Exploring everything on your own is even more fun :3 There is not really a golden rule of making music. The only thing should be avoided is "clipping" when you record something digitaly and it is louder than the maximum volume range (in decibel). Digital has it's limits and when your signal is louder than these limit it will crush against that upper border. And that's being called "clipping" and it sounds distorted. In analog you are not so much limited. There is no such thing as clipping. The sound will distort as well when it is too loud but it will never "clip" to your ears. And another thing that many people do when "mastering" a mix is the overuse of volume adjusting measurements like a "compressor" that mostly produces a nasty "pumping" sound. If you listen to todays pop music or radio, you know what i mean >.< I can't stand it because that pumping and "all-loud" sound makes me aggressive.

I think you should look at video platforms that have some pretty neat tutorial videos for FL studio and probably even LMMS and Tracktion. I'm not so much of a good teacher to be honest :P

I really appreciate your advice Mike, i'm kinda leaning towards FL Studio but i'm giving it some serious thought.
