Whenever someone favorites your work or adds you to their watch list, rather than giving a knee-jerk "thanks for the watch" response, I suggest you actually take the time to look at their page. You should at least look for the words "don't thank me for the watch." It is only curtious.
Whenever someone adds me to their watch list, I always go over their page. If they have more than 500 people already on their watch list, I don't even bother replying. They are probably already flooded with submissions. If their watch list is within reason, I'll thank them for the watch, but I try not to stop there either. If they have a journal up, i'll read it, and try to add a good comment. I will also look through their most recent submissions and try to be constructive with comments there, too. I don't know if you are like me, but watches mean a lot to me. I feel like its usually worth the effort to give some attention/affection back.

Admittedly, I'm bad at commenting on others' work. I need to work on doing that more.
