I have two fursonas Rumtar is a liger while Gramps is an old lion. I like cats and why I chosen a liger for Rumtar is because they are one of a kind.

i needed a user name for my isp i spotted a picture that meant a lot to me
it was a sue daws picture of a cyborg unicorn standing on a circutbaord id been given it by a friend whos home was on fire the mother yelling at people coming out and standing around to grab the pictures on the walls they were iriplaceable so i ran in an did nearly scraping them off into my arms as i ran out.

the house was totaly destroyed the glass in many was shattered but the pictures were safe

she laughed at me said why did i grab the unicorn? i just shrugged she gave it to me said to keep it

It took a while but I'm a doggysona!
At first, I thought I'd stick with my yoshi character since I love to eat and act cute... dun judge me!
Then I made up a charmeleon character since I love heat and am so hot headed.
Then my alien experiment character since I love to be wild and chaotic.
Then I made one more character who still hasn't seen the light of day just yet. But he represents me by loving electricity and loving to invent things.

But with time, I finally went with a doggy for my main fur. I was gonna be a shape shifter to change to them all but I rather have them all separate. <3 I am a dog since I like acting like one in many ways. Be it from growling and barking like one, to scratching my head with my foot to sniffing butts even! (not in real life, of course! Just on the nets)

My sona's always been with me in one form or another.
He was my character in childish playground game s(like when I was 7)
He became a character in my first few attempts at writing
and then when I became a furry I just updated hime again, changed a few generics made him someone I could relate to and use as boh a character and a mouth piece.

My name I picked simply because I wanted somethin unusual but bland and generic.

Sam (I was watching stargate and still think Amanda Tapping is fit)

Dragons have always fascinated me, I'd love to be able to fly. I'm also bad tempered, I collect things of value

I don't have any credit on even having a fursonas.

But I've been meaning to sit down one day and figure out what shapes and lines i like to draw the most and then stick that on a body and just use that....I haven't done yet though.

But i think that's a best way to go about it.

It actually took me a long time to settle on a species I was completely happy with for my character. There are so many animals I like, and I kind of bounced around for a while before I settled on the rabbit character I'm using now. What decided it for me was a bit unusual, though, so I don't know how much it might help. I finally settled on a rabbit because of how fond I was of one of the heroines of my first novel. She was a spirited, enthusiastic sort of girl, and just the sort to rush off to save the world without a second thought. Just the sort of person, in other words, that I've always kind of wanted to be. I actually used her as my avatar character for a while, before I created the one I'm using now. I decided that, as much as I liked the original character, the fact that she had an established storyline, and a family of her own, made things too confusing. Her species was really sort of secondary to the whole thing, though it does help that I've always been rather fond of rabbits, especially the little cottontails who live in my back yard. I've stuck with rabbit as a species since then because I've gotten comfortable with it and because a rabbit probably fits me better than any predatory species.

I do have a fox character who could almost serve as my second avatar character, since she's probably my favorite of all the characters I've ever created. But I've never really used her as such. She's more fun to keep as her own person.

Anyway, I've no idea if that's of any use, or even if it makes sense, but I've been where you are and I hope you can settle on a character you like in time.

I actually had the of being a hippo, but only because I didn't want to that 'male artist draws his fursona having sex with everything' type thing, but that didn't last long.
I love all hoofers and just picked the species who 'personality' is most like mine, so viola! a mule, and I made him orange for good measure.

When I was growing before I was settled with myself I had many things I called my sona. It wasn't till later I settled onto a bovine and into my own skin. I just knew it was right. Not sure if thats much help, :(

Moved on to a phoenix after I played Furcadia for a while; liked the plumage. =3

Was a wolf when I first got onto Second Life 'cause it was there and a friend was buying. =P

I've finally settled on a cat, which only solidified for me once I started doing Taiqi RL and learned I was a Fire Tiger. Not gonna say the horoscope works for everybody, but I've certainly seen improvements in my life since I started tackling everything from a catty perspective.

Of course the specific TYPE of cat I laze about as still changes a bunch, depending how I'm feeling. =P And I do have the rare occasion where I just gotta wag. <3 But yah, cat.

i have 5 fursonas, but the main two i use are Chakat Nightstar and Taila Firewing Sillianpaa. both started out trying to be like someone else i read about, but as i played both they started to devlope their own unique personallitys based on experinces i had and partly putting my rl personallty into them

I never doubt my being some kind of feline - and although I like to see myself as a lean, mean tiger I know I am more tending to be a Garfield with every passing year
Don't know if you can call it spiritual bond or projecting ones (un)conscious expectations and dreams - but after thinking about "what animal you want to be" back in teenage years I just knew I am a feline, and tiger because I adore them the most. I share a lot of personality with felines - tho not going into detail here . So I think I didn't really choose my fursona (don't even think I should call it fursona) I just became the one that fitted me best.
I am not very spiritual but I guess the shaman way of binding iwth your animal spirit would describe it best - it chooses you, not the other way round. On the other hand I choose what I liked, which is again typical for felines... Weird isn't it?
In SL I change avatars - after all it's no big deal and just a clothing to me - but I always stay the grumpy tiger I am.

but for reals.. i used to be a wolf because i liked them.. but then i discovered how much i loved dragons.. everything about them makes me love them :D

so i had a friend copy a picture of a dragon and color it different.. then i had it drawn a little differently.. added some hair.. messed with the design and gave him glasses.. now he is more like me :3

as for colors.. i just took my favorite colors blue, green, yellow, white, and black

i honestly can not see myself as anything other then a dragon.. since ive been a dragon for like....7 or 8 years.. maybe longer

It was funny how I became a griffon. My first ever character was on Furry MUCK 10+ years ago, and I was torn between picking upon my two favorite RL animals for a fursona species: Bald eagle or White tiger. One kind soul in the West Corner of the Park simply suggested, "If you're not sure? Why not make a griffon of the two?"

Me: "...I thought griffons had to be eagles / lions to be officially griffons?"

Guy: "This is the furry fandom. You can make your griffon whatever mix you want, especially since he's your creation."

And thus, Valoriel Talonheart was born.

Ok. Origin story time.

Mine was radioactive waste...oh wait, wrong origin story.

I used to belong to a forum based on roleplaying game worlds coming together. Some of the players were furries and I got to know them and appreciate them as friends. I figured I would look into the fandom, but since I still bought into some of the negative views commonly held about the fandom and it's people at the time, I didn't want anyone to know it was me.

So I made a character that didn't represent me very well. I made her a female. I based her creation on a template in the furry roleplaying game Jadeclaw, which is set in the orient; I made her a raccoon so that no one would mistake me for not being from the States. She became a ninja and I even statted out her character sheet.

Later on, after I had become more comfortable with the fandom and could see it for what it truly was, I went back and made my usual avatar, a human superhero that loosely represents me, more furry-like. In the story I had for him he had an extra-dimensional counterpart who was feline. So I went with spotted leopard, as we used to have such big cats native to the Southern US (having migrated from South America. I don't think any exist here any more). Didn't change much else about him. He was intended to be a tragic hero.

Hum... my first fursona was a sort of Protoype of my main female OC, Yuriko. Her name was Cynthia and she was a snowleopardess from start.

I picked a female because uhm... it was more interesting to explore? She had multiple breasts because of some artwork from the awesome Monty, who back then still did furry art. I replaced Cynthia with Yuriko after developing myself and my character via Roleplaying. Eventually I wanted a proper fursona, a male version of myself.

I swapped the colours a bit but kept him a snowleopard and at first he was very close to me, both in attitude and looks. As I grew, so did he, slowly. Eventually I revamped him, made him a bit more athletic and self confident, a bit more of a "better" me, so to speak.

His last revamp saw a change in name and more refinements in appearance, more details, more things that make im unique/a person.

To me, my characters mature and change with my own life but also with things I would like to see in myself/in them. They are a reflection of many aspects and facettes of myself, my fantasies and also my hopes =)

personly i say a shapshifter but i got a base shape a wolf... i know it might not help as muce as you wantede but as long as your happy then way limet your self to just one? this is ouer life ouer fun no reasone to not have fun

Mine just sort of formed organically. I always had an appreciation for hooved creatures, and ZigZag indoctrinated me to stripes, but I did not ever think zebra, until I needed a rare species for a story I was working on. Once I had her species, I gave her blue hair in the front due to being a huge fan of Joss Whedon's character Illyria, and so there Lauren became. Eventually she just grew so much she took over as my main sona when ZigZag stepped back, and nature abhors a vacuum, so...

I chose a giant panda because 1) I eat and sleep like one, and 2) there are too many canines and felines XD
I also want to say that this was one of those "meant to be" scenarios, where either the animal finds you or your inner animal emerges, idk

Ainoko is a hybrid of two animals that I associate with the most, wolves and cheetahs. Cheetahs because I am solitary, wolves as I I do enjoy being around friends and family, and both as I have a wide range to patrol and roam

Mine took some time to "find". Kind of "tripped" over being asquirrel when a friend of mine suggest I was one due to wanting good value for my money plus my general noseiness/curiosity on so many different things.

I took 2 animals I like and mashed them together into my main character, you could do the same.
