Weird power failure, any suggestions?
I was on my computer playing Battlestar Galactica online, first my laptop was plugged into a surge protector and it was getting power and everything was ok, then my computer was getting hot so I moved it over to the air conditioning to get it cool, few minutes later I switch back to the surge protector and I don't get any power. First I think it was the Surge protector, then I test the outlet, nothing, I switch to another outlet and the surge protector works fine, after a few tests I discover that the one outlet, and the small bedroom and the bathroom don't have any power anymore. everything else in the house works fine. I am not sure what exactly is wrong so any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Could be a tripped circuit if all those outlets are on a single circuit. I would start at the circuit breaker and make sure none of those have tripped first.

Oh and if it is that, make sure to unplug/shut off everything in those areas before resetting it because if that is it. It means you were drawing too much current and caused it to trip and turning it all back on could cause another surge/ trip.

There was nothing on in the house except for my computer and a light in the corner and my Xbox 360. Plus there is nothing plugged-in in my room except for a cell phone charger. good to know though.

Check for a tripped breaker in the house pannel. But remove the overload before you reset.

I am not familiar with what a "tripped" breaker would be, how do I do all that?

When circut breaker is basically a switch , has an on and off toggle to it. Most in the tripped setting the handle of the switch would be in the center. To reset turn it off then on again and it rearranging the breaker.

Oh, and when turning it back on should I put it back in "trip" or "on"? any other precautions or steps I should take before switching it?

If It is a breaker trip it will show itself as the handle of the breaker switch ill indicate the trip by its position. Go and push it over to off, then push it back over to on. But check too see of any are tripped and don't turn off the main as it might not turn back on.
