Aside from scaring pigeons and other birds away from the garden or car, what else could it be useful for? Now I like the idea that it has twin gyros for stability, and it looks like it'd be a lot of fun to fly. Outfitting a similar contraption to look like your Oriville character would be a hoot. I'd go for the critter built from synthetic fur though. It would be a bit more durable, less attractive to ants, and easier to replace the worn out pieces of pelt.

The artist in me is looking for application to perhaps the display of a cat in constant free fall. Unfortunately I can't block out the noise of the motor long enough to concentrate on what that would look like. I call their project a fail. It has no aesthetic value to make me pull out my wallet. Even if it is a little funny that the function is ironic to the nature of a cat, the skin looks like a pelt, and so it is totally a turn off. If the cat were made of synthetic materials, I might be more inclined, but since the artist's intent was serious material, it makes the situation serious and so "Seriously?! You would fillet a cat to make it fly??" Why is making a cat fly so seriously needed? Flight is not natural to a cat and you can't find one cat on earth that would love flying.
Again I say they failed to market well because of their material. They fail.

I saw that news story on my cell phone before going into work. I guess it has artistic value, but...I know the cat is dead and all...but...I still feel a little sorry for it.

I had mixed reactions to this too when I saw it. It looked pretty cool, but having the cat's eyes wide open was kinda freaky. Though you probably could use something like that to terrorize the neighborhood dogs. :D

And FWIW... I have no plans to do that to MY cat.
