A race of intelligent monkeys try to make their courtship/mating seem (at least to them) special or better in some way in comparison to other animals by creating "romantic" sounds about it...only other animals have been doing that long before humans learned to hit two rocks together.
It just the base need to fuck or breed.
Did you know male grasshoppers have up to 400 different songs they can sing during mating season to attract a female? They have been shown to range from flirting all the way to "I want to fuck.".
Human song comparisons:
flirting/romantic: Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight
I want to fuck: Nine Inch Nails - Fuck You Like An Animal
So the question is are we just following instinct, or can grasshoppers feel "love"?
