The Dark Knight Rises

Finally got around to writing some thoughts about The Dark Knight Rises, after having a few days to digest the film.

The funny thing is, I figured, for sure, that by the end of "Rises" I would be able to put one above the other; "Dark Knight" above "Rises" or vice versa. But I walked out of the theater, long after the credits, at about 3:30a after the midnight showing, here, last week...and I couldn't. I found them both equally amazing and intense with "Begins" being a very close second.
I don't know who is going to be crazy enough to try to take on the re-boot Hollywood already wants to do but I feel sorry for them. Not sure how they, director, producers, and so on, are going to live-up to the expectations that would surely follow them around, almost hauntingly, after Nolan's amazing trilogy. Arguably one of the greatest movie trilogies of all-time and certainly the best comic book movie adaptation series of all-time.
Thou i must say i liked the second Hulk reboot a lot better than Ang Lee's version and Spidey... well.. Sam Raimi's Trillogy is just perfect. I don't get what's wrong with all the haters bitching about part 3?
Aren't they even already planning to reboot X-men as well? >.<
But that won't stop me going to see a movie at at theater. And of course that won't stop the loonies from keeping this world a dangerous place.
The movie itself was far better then I expected, not only one of the greastest comic book related movies i've seen but generally one of the best i've seen this year entirely. I was on the edge of my seat far more then i was for the Avengers, and I'm a Marvel buff!
By the time the credits came around the movie had a short stall after every second . It was that distracting I missed a few details about the ending but either way, got free tickets so can't complain too much!
I still gotta see part 3, but Heath Ledger didn't impress me much in part 2. AFAIK, nobody was impressed much with Ledger's performance until his Oscar nomination. According to Terry Gilliam, not even the studios were impressed much with Ledger's performance while he was trying to bring the funds for his The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus together, and none of the studio executives (who'd already seen The Dark Knight before its release) could imagine a great star power in Ledger based on his performance. Until then, Ledger's biggest box office successes so far had been high school comedies and "that one gay cowboys art film" (and Gilliam's prior film, The Brothers Grimm that had been majorly damaged by producer interference) that the studios felt didn't target the same demographics as Christopher Nolan or Gilliam's proposed film. But then Ledger got nominated for his role in The Dark Knight (wasn't that after he died, even?), and suddenly everyone and their dog changed their minds and called it a good performance. The rest was done by marketing and trade reviews.
I also don't see how, "Hey, we're both freaks! We're the same! Why so serious?" is supposed to be such a complex, sophisticated "nihilistic philosophy". I liked part 2 a lot, but that was because of Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and the action sequences. Not much there to "analyze the entire tale", but fun.
But honestly this version of bane, while fun to watch, had a much more subtle aura about him than the joker did. Ledger spent time in seclusion to practice for this role, but the insanity that was bane was far more background and IMO harder to prepare for and harder to portray externally, but Tom Hardy did an amazing job, and in the end i had more fun watching Bane.

Hans Zimmer.
Funny thing, I didn't take as much notice as you did to the whole the truth will set you free thing.
As well as the movie was done, it was boring to me and some details here or there bothered me.
The second movie hardly seemed like a Batman film at all. It was a Joker movie, with Batman in a supporting role. And The Joker clearly suffered from Hannibal Lector syndrome -- madness obviously adds 100 points to anyone's IQ. For The Joker to have pulled off half his crimes, he would have had be be trucking explosives surreptitiously into buildings for months, if not years, ahead of time.
But, to tell the truth, I enjoyed the two films more this time than the first couple of viewings. So I do look forward to the third.
Really, I didn't think they would really kill Bruce Wayne off, not just for the philosophical reasons but also because the trailers and such have hinted extensively that John Blake would be his successor and, I'm sorry, but he will get his candy ass handed to him without someone to help train him. Although that franchise has ended, I can see Bruce Wayne returning to train him.
Most of my issues came from just how paper thin everything in the film felt. My wife and I enjoyed the film but every time we talk about it we liked it less. We watched Movie Bob's review of it after seeing the film and he pretty much summed up our feelings. You may actually enjoy his thoughts. He's intelligent in his reviews.

FOR OTHERS THERE ARE SOME SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW AS THE REVIEWER EVEN WARNS ABOUT
I mean, think about it... those companions to speak to, and somehow the details of the topic they KEEP talking about never come up, so he can be surprised later?
All I can say is: those guys were dicks.
