Crazy, crazy idea: Tour de Florida
Some weird idea I had after visiting some friends in Miami. Over the past couple years I've been cycling a lot to try and get back in shape, and basically wondered if anyone ever thought of or done a long-distance trek down A1A - which for anyone living outside of Florida would basically involve biking down the entire Florida coast from Amelia Island near the Georgia border all the way down to Key West. The length would probably be one-third that of the Appalachian Trail, but like it there are plenty of stops at along the way.
The route would be quite scenic and would have plenty of photo opportunities - most of the stretch is along the coast, sometimes right on the beach and passes through protected shores as well, also it passes through Florida's largest and oldest cities.
I don't know if I'd ever do it but it's a though, maybe one day with I'm feeling particularly manic lol. One challenge would be to see if this is even possible. The stretch along the Cape Canaveral area actually goes through he launch pads and near an air force base - so I'll have to see if that has civilian access. Also, there are stretches without sidewalks - including some rather narrow bridges, going across the Florida Keys, over open ocean. (!)

Maybe instead of a pace car, an ambulance?
