Pandora Hovercraft
species: Red Panda
Age: 25ish
Color: Standard for species
Hair Color: Purple, very fluffy but straight, tied up into two "puffs" behind her ears (think Red from fraggle rock except hanging down instead of sticking up)
Eye Color: Blue, medium bright
Height: ~5'10" (height is relative depending on the standard height of a given story, she is tall for a woman)
Weight/Build: atheltic, not thick or thin, agile with enough weight behind her to lend her some momentum
Weapon(s): Anything she can get a hold of, proficient with many
Parents/Past: Not really important to her current story line. Minor gentry, a grandfather or elder uncle invented something mildly profitable so they were not poor, but not incredibly well off either. She left home young, before really becoming attatched to any of them.
Back Story: Her family was not wealthy but they had enough money to be comfortable. They had a town house and some small comforts and Pandora was being schooled and taught some manners, raised in polite society as it were. They lived in a small but prospering merchant town and she spent all the free time she could get down by the wharf playing with sea gypsy children and listening to the stories of old pirates which was always more interesting than learning etiquette and proper comportment. Mostly due to wanderlust and general ennui she decided to leave home in her early teens. Her departure was sudden and a direct response to a proposal of marriage (in the future to be sure, but still dire in her mind) by a rather boring son of a family friend. Her parents are all for the idea, not holding out much hope for her to find better given her general unruliness and dislike for acting like a proper lady. She leaves them a note in the night, steals her father's compass and stowes away on a ship, destination unknown. She is raised on the run by anyone who will have her, mostly gypsies but occasionally elderly pirates (those too old to be bothered with her budding femininity), and bands of theives. Once she has honed her skills a bit she strikes out on her own as a bit of a mercenary and treasure hunter. She stals from the rich to sell to the rich, though she maintains very little in personal assets. She has safe deposits in banks/with money lenders in a number of countries to store items she is particularly fond of and a bit of mad money for if she is ever in a pinch. She is proficient at hand-to-hand combat and also with steam guns, crossbows and is a passable sword fighter. She does not like to fight, but she can, and well. She has never shed the blood of an opponent except in self defense, though she has used slightly more "civilized" methods of disposing of individuals that pose an obstacle to her doing what she needs to do (including poinson, shoving off various precipices, and strangulation). Even then she tries to achieve her goals without loss of life or injury to anyone. She is level-headed and a good problem solver. She is all about action, but in reality is much more of a thinker than a do-er. She has had a vast wealth pass through her paws but she is in it for the adventure and suspense, not profit. Her accessories change frequently as she acquires new items or picks things up or discards them as a job warrants, the only constant is the compass she took from home, and a heavy ring of keys which go to her lock boxes. She does not usually dress very lady-like, it is not functional enough. Instead she prefers rolled pants, often of a classic safari type (cargo) but will still wear women's upper body garb, to lend to her rugged femininity and to disarm or throw off potential adversaries (she's far more than meets the eye), basically she is aware that she has assets and is not ashamed of using them.
She makes periodic alliances, but never romantic ones, though she has used sex as a means to an end she has never been in love and is not yet ready to settle down. She has occasional flings, mostly with young pirates (the handsome devils) but more for enjoyment than emotional satisfaction.
She regularly teams with Niles Sandwich when she needs someone ruthless and cutthroat with no sense of remorse in order to get a job done quickly when physical danger is likely to happen.
Niles Sandwich
Species: Fennec Fox
Age: 29
Color: Standard for species
Hair color: none currently (if he had hair it would match the stripe on the side of his muzzle)
Eye Color: lavender
Height: ~5'6" (relative to story, he is short for a male, at least a few inches shorter than Pandora)
Weight/Build: Petite/Slight (malnourished when very small)
Weapon(s): Straight Razor, also whatever is on hand
Parents/Past: Gypsies. He always wanted to live in polite society instead of with the gypsies so he left them and now tries not to associate with them at all anymore whenever possible.
Backstory: Niles is a little off in the head. In some cases he can come off as a perfect gentleman, speak normally and relate to other s in a polite and respectful way, then turn around and destroy everything in sight just to get a maniacal giggle out of it. He is smart and crafty but has a sick sense of humor and no normal hangups about killing, maiming, stealing, or property ownership. On his own he doesn't feel that the job has been done satisfactorily if no one gets hurt (himself excluded). he grew up wanting to live as a gentleman with an estate, but when he found no easy way to achieve the necessary wealth he turned to theivery and corrupt endeavors (spying, secrets trading, hitman activities). Despite his relative success at these things he has still amassed very little savings due to some vices, mainly for nice clothing and binge drinking very expensive vintage liquors, he also occasionally binges on kept women, though they all burn out and leave in the end due to his unpredictable behaviour and easily inflamed nature. He has been essentially trying to buy the life he always dreamed of, without having to conform to societal standards so he ends up looking the part but without any real culture, having beautiful escorts but never love or a relationship.
The best quick summary - A wanton killer and a little neurotic, the sort of chap who's likely to make a handpuppet out of a head that has been freed from its neck if given the chance.
He is easily distracted and benefits from teaming up with more stable individuals, though they often abandon himbecause it is so exhausting staying on top of his moods and random bouts of insanity. He does always manage to somehow cover his tracks despite his penchant for causing needless bloodshed, but for most potential partners he is just more risk than is worth it.
Teams with Pandora on high risk endeavors or ones where he knows that if he goes at it alone and his normal way he will get caught, he needs her for temperance.
Adina Azhurra
Species: Gryphon (clouded leopard and victoria crowned pigeon)
Color: shades of blue, pattern typical for species
Age: 22
Hair Color: powder blue (doesn't really have hair, just the plumes typical of the pigeon)
Eye color:
Height: 5'5" (relative to story, she is average for a female)
Weight/build: slender but not thin, lithe, graceful, feminine
Weapons: A lady has a man for that sort of thing. *cough*
Parents/past: Father is a wealthy merchant trading back and forth between southern tropics and northern modern society, mostly he is an overseer of his buisness, and she spent a lot of time at dinner parties and other high-end functions, learning to be a lady, about undercurrents of politics and how to be a wife and know your place. Her mother is a woman of some breeding who knows how to be diplomatic and demure and apreciate the finer things. Adina has never wanted for much, nor does she ever intend to.
Backstory: Adina grew up 1/3 in a wealthy manor home in the arid tropics (I imagine it like africa, south across a sea from europe though I haven't worked out real details of the land masses and such), 1/3 in an expansive town home in a major northern hub city, and 1/3 in travel between the two on her father's large and gaudy merchant vessels. Her education was divided up similarly, learning to live in the lap of luxury at the manor home, learning to entertain and be a cultured lady in the city, and learning the baser womanly arts from ship wenches in her travels on the water. Because her father was of a rather high caliber of merchant, specializing in fine, exotic goods (silk, rugs, exotic spices, gems, decorative weaponry and occasionally concubines) his ships were always beautiful and large and exotic as well. She grew up surrounded by splendor, and assured from a very early age (as an only child and the apple of her father's eye) that he would make sure she never lacked anything she might need, and that all her desires were met, both material and in a future husband. Her mother made sure she understood the nuance of entertaining, and being seen, and most mannerisms of polite society, of paying attention and keeping one's ears open for any information could be of value to one's husband, the monarch of the family unit, the one who should be deferred to in all things. As much as Adina adores her father and he adores her, and she grows up with dreams of being a princess or at least, of being treated like one, and knowing that all she wants in the world is to be able to dress beautifully and be pampered and being lively and engaging at parties and be protected and cherished and not have to do any dirty work or any of the things she's been raised to view as "man's work", these things all pale in comparison to the realization that she can't seem to get interested in men. The way she has been raised has not prepared her for this outcome and she winds up feeling a bit lost, still yearning for a proper life orchestrating parties and keeping a house of servants in check, she can't seem to reconcile her revulsion for men with the life she's always wanted. It doesn't exactly strike her as an option to choose a woman for a partner, which leaves her in a number of awkward situations regarding suitors and various interested parties, mostly associates of her father's, though also occasionally relative strangers at social gatherings. Eventually she will get it right, but will her family?
(sorry if this is a bit more poorly written than the previous two, I kinda did those on paper and had some time to work out the bugs, this one I'm doing on the fly since inspiration hit and its a little mashy and full of long ass runons)
I'm not decided on what relationship Adina will have with Niles and/or Pandora, but she definitely struck me as a character I wanted to add to my steampunk roster
