Still Seeking Artists for a grand collaboration...
13 years ago
General
Two years ago; after having been a member of FA for a little while; I decided to put out a call to artists, to see if they were interested in making illustrations for a Fan-Made D&D Compendium.
The original journal is here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1176843/ ; and has been open ever since.
Some of the artists I'm personally hoping would join in are:
hattonslayden
fox-die
spazzykoneko < Though she's closed on commissions...
Cylnx
carnival
teathebunny
uminigai < Already offered
leetah43
... But many are welcome.
I am looking for a myriad of images; from "design schematic"-style sketches to full-color pics. This is a project intended to not only provide some variation and structure for other players of D&D and the D20 system; but also help spread appreciation for the artwork contained therein.
Therefore; I propose a "Reverse Commission"-style system: I'll post up my maximum that I can handle for specific image types; and then artists choose which to shoot for, and we negotiate from there. To apply, you simply need to specify which type of pic you want to do, and drop a couple example links.
Needed:
A Cover:
100 Sketches/linearts; (60 "Schematic" style; 40 of various sizes):
40 "half-complete" Scenes or Single character Details:
20 Full-color scenes/images:
Various decorative elements (Emblems; Menu bars; page number spots; Chapter Tabs):
Any artists who are interested, please let me know! Thanks for reading!

P.S. Thank you for naming me specifically. That was very sweet of you and made me smile.
If not; I believe I can scrounge up some demo images:

I was thinking the Character detail and world-creation spots would be right up your alley; but then again; I could be wrong ^^. After working with ya and getting to know ya; it seemed only natural to want to include ya in this endeavor, should you want ^^
http://hattonslayden.deviantart.com.....msel-286254027 Fixed from above; XD
So, specifically do you basically give me a description to create into an illustration? What do you give me and what do you expect back in detail is what I wanted to know.
Originally; I had thought of letting an Artist declare what type of image that they wanted to shoot for; I would reply with a few selections of needed image descriptions;
Like for example:
If you had selected "Technical-style";
I would reply with:
We are in desperate need in this area ^^ We have a few different categories of these types:
Full-Body, Anatomy and Armor detail; (In particular need of Armor design of Lobosian Royal Guard; and technical Overall anatomy of each race);
Weapon, Shield, and Armor design and detail; (In need of technical designs for Melesian Fighting Shields, and Lobosian K'resh)
Symbols, Crests, Rings, and Emblem Detail; (Specifically in need of Lobosian Royal Crest detail; and Aspects of Ehlonna Crests design)
Diagrams and Miscellany; (In need of inter-racial height comparison; Possible Faction design; and designs and detail for the Origin Story)
Depending on what you chose of these categories; I would reply with a list of various specific examples. Had you picked a specific example listed here (or in the next one) I would respond back in detail (as best as I can describe) of exactly what I'm looking for. It would become a little more interactive (I hope); with constant dialogue back and forth (maybe even a rough sketch or two) until we can solidify the idea of the illustration. I'm kinda hoping to build, grow, and expand the concept through each progressive piece; literally building an entire world, one picture at a time ^^. Each picture, in turn, would be a new reference for more... and so on... ^^
As for the different races; I've got 10 in the 'main branch' (3 types; 10 different 'breeds'; one particularly very rare); with 3 others in development. As needed; I can go into detail on each one; describing each; though I'm still open to further imaginative design on a couple(like the Bassarians and their crazy "Race-specific" class.).
If anything interests you; I'll be glad to expand upon it ^^.
1. WTF is Lobosian? Even Google is clueless.
2. What kind of races are we talkin about?
3. Does any of this already exist or is it totally new? AKA is there any kind of visual reference for anything specific?
4. As far as what I know I'm good with... last time I checked I was fail at armor, weapons, gundams, cars and that stuff BUT I have not attempted it since I did online roleplay and I quit that like 10 years ago.
5. I think it would be best to see where I can help most. What if I did a series of small "examples" for each like pick one weapon and we'll see if it looks like what you want before I put a whole lot of work into something cause that always sucks.
6. I don't mind you playing pushy boss. It makes me feel safer when someone is giving off the commands and it's your project so you're the leader.
3rd Read Through...
7. I'm going to the bookstore tomorrow... should I look for some D & D stuff? How much is online? How about some books on drawing weapons or armor?
8. When I do the figures are they usually going to be in action poses?
9. Are there any races you'd consider "Cute"?
10. I don't have to draw porn do I?
11. Should I get my book back on how to play this? Cause I never actually learned.
12. My best friend (a brilliant artist) and boyfriend (an uber nerd) DO know how to play. Is there any way they'd be able to translate this into "Stupid Nerd in Training Chick" for me?
((If any of this is coming off as bitch it's just the internet. It's really dry sarcasm and being tired.))
13. What are you eventually doing with this stuff? Do we need to work out where I am allowed to post this or if i sign it or how that works or is it super casual who fucking cares?
14. How's the family? (Just tossing that in there)
...I'm sure your response will only give more questions. In total I think I read this about 6 times. I think I will have Shawn read it and translate. The only flaws are he is unable to actually describe anything or give you the definition of a word that appears in the dictionary so I don't know how much it will help but it's worth a try.
2. The races are as follows: Lobosians, Melesians, Vulproc, Nekonyan, Bassarians, and the Gulnir.
It breaks down like this:
Lobosians = Wolves
Vulproc = Foxes
Nekonyan = Felines
Melesians = Badgers
Bassarians = Ringtails (all sorts; really. I may have to add a disambiguation to them and make different types)
and the Gulnir = Wolverines.
<All Anthros; of course>
There are also different types of the first three groups (for example; my character 'Arlo' is a Fenno Vulproc; or a Fennec.) I'll further expand upon those if needed ^^
3. It's all new ^^ I've created all of these races out of my own head, and balanced them out through play. (I was ecstatic to see in their debut game; all but one player picked one of the different Anthro Races, and there were no repeats ^^) They are tweaked and tuned into working with D&D and the D20 system; and as such, all of their abilities are reflected through D&D Terms.
4. I don't expect anyone to just jump right in there and draw EVERYTHING XD It's all good; playing your own personal strengths here is a good idea; there's a lot of images needed; I'm kinda hoping to get a good mix of a few artists who can take care of different aspects with their individual strengths.
5. I think that's a great Idea ^^ The only two 'compendium-specific' weapons I've got so far is the Lobosian K'resh, and Melesian Fighting Shields. (Note; this is 'so far')
6. Alright ^^ I'll try to be fair in my new 'role' ^^
7. Most likely; though Books are spendy... On top of that; you'll want to be sure you're reading the 3.5 books; 4.0 got all sorts of messed-up and confusing. On the Weapons and Armor books; if you're willing, then go right ahead ^^
8. Somewhat; it depends on the pic, really. Not everything needs to be action. An interaction between a couple of characters in a room (like a conversation) doesn't have the need for action poses (though; if it did; that would be hilarious XD)
9. Oh yes ^^ Fenno Vulproc and the Bassarians for the most part are the most 'cute'; followed closely by the Nekonyans. You've seen Arlo a couple times; and a character who most closely resembles my idea for a Bassarian is Kosumi; right here: http://e621.net/data/31/e9/31e97ea2.....jpg?1340476545
10. XD It's not required, no. You can if you want; though I doubt it'll make it into the book XD
11. It may help; yes. I could teach you pretty well, if you like; what with my many years of being a player and a DM... I'm always happy to teach someone else the game ^^
12. I'm pretty sure; yeah; as long as they're familiar with 3.5; there should be no prob ^^ <nudge nudge> Always looking for extra Artists in this too... heh
13. I'm eventually hoping to be able to make it into a real book as a supplement for D&D. (I totally can; and D&D encourages people to use their system and develop for it; they only ask that I give credit for the system to them; and mention it's for use with their product; of course ^^) Barring that; I'm thinking of maybe distributing it in PDF format as an additional resource. Signing your stuff probably wouldn't hurt ^^
14. Keeping on keeping on... I've got myself a job working 4 days a week; My daughter's going back to school again; and my Fiance is hanging in there. We're kinda precarious on the 'getting a place' angle; but we've still got time; thanks for asking ^^ How've you been doing yourself as of late?
(gasp, pant, pant) There... all fourteen questions... XD And more to come, I'm sure. 'sall good ^^ Communication is key in such a huge project ^^
My life is under construction. I am having a panic attack. Ask me later.
I'm gonna have Shawn read this in a bit and hopefully get a better idea and certainly more questions.
