I consider myself a slightly noticed fur. I think it is also good to point out that there are local popufurs and global popufurs or maybe there are more celebrity furs. If everyone in your local community knows you and wants to be round you... you maybe considered a popufur. However just because you are well known in one area doesn't mean furs know you are or give you any importance in another area. I dunno. Popufur is subjective..... The furry community is growing but generally if someone has heard of you and you don't know who they are.. you might be a popufur.

But honestly... There is something wrong if you are NOT talked about in the fandom. Everyone has friends and friendamies.... Eh..

You have to then consider why that fur is more well known.. it is because they are good artist? they are an active fursuiter, or happen to have no life and spend 99 percent of their day favoriting other people's shit on FA... or maybe it is because they screwed someone over and every fur has to talk about it,, or maybe something horrible happened to them and they got instant fame because of it. For example.. The couple who got ran over by the car... I didn't know who they were before that horrible day... but because their story has be reposted and talked about all over the place, if I ever run across beastcub's sister, she will be forever known as the girl who's bf got ran over and killed by a car while saving her life. I am pretty sure she didn't ask to become popufur or even wants such a status. My point is simply people now know about her.

Why even focus on popularity anyway? Why not just be a good person, do your thing and not worry about where anyone is on the social furry ladder. It is not popufurs per-say that provokes a bad reaction, it is people stroking their own ego and constantly having to prove why they are such a great person and so much better then someone else or even a couple of furs to everyone they come across, that irritates the living daylights out of folks.

Agree with what Romani says. But some are popular because of their charachtar. And their acting. And some because they just are outright nice. Some real nice. As to status,, if they are the real nice ones,, they deserve the status. As fur me.. I'm not a popufur, and don't want to be..

Popufur seems to have a negative connotation, it is not the same meaning as just being popular in the fandom. It seems to me that many that are called Popufur are what you would call infamous.

I do like knowing people. and being able to call many friends.
