alright, three things popped out to me immediately.

First, the profile area is really cut off. I have a small-ish profile and some of it was gone. That could be that it was just formatted for the size of yours, but if not that might be something to look into.

Second, it looks freakin' amazing. No more little boxes around everything, and the rounded corners are a sight to behold. ^_º

Third, and lastly, the font is a bit... think. honestly if a theme or two based on a different font option (or even just a 'light' option) would be very, very nice. Something thin and light like http://fontfabric.com/hero-free-font/ might do the trick. I don't know if that's free but there are tons of alternatives... I know that it might be more complex to call a different font to render than it would be to just call a different color background, but I figure it's similar to a feature that already exists and shouldn't be terribly hard to wedge in there, would it? I'm no professional at that but I've done some non-web coding and I understand how those kinds of things work. Sorta. Lol sorry if I'm rambling.

TLDR, site looks great, size formatting might be messed up, a light font would be appreciated to match the rounded corners and general 'easy on the eyes' look.

The banner is limiting for those using smaller screen resolutions. I know it's a PITA (because I've tried!), but would you consider a liquid banner set to an initial size of 2200x200? This way everyone can see the entire thing.

I can tell it needs a lot of work, but otherwise, it looks pretty decent so far! Keep it up!

when will the profile pic system get an overhaul? its rather frustrating to scrap a picture when you want to put it as your profile image =/ especially when the image ISN'T a scrap XP

I'd like the profile picture system to be overhauled, as well as a new one for desktops and/or workspace photos (users can post their desktop, computer desk, room, etc).

Although the general population has been bemoaning yourself and the administration team for many years for the lack of updates and 'constant' well down time, and I can only say thank you for the time and effort that you have put in for the site and the user base. You will never be able to apease all users, and that is a task that is not even worth contemplating.

At least you have kept going. I have seen many projects dropped for having less issues than this site. And as for saying its overdue. You do not receive a wage from the site, you do not demand recognition for anything concerned with the running of the domain. You work at it out of reverence for the community.

Also, there needs to be a little more definition between the sections of gallery, favorites and featured submissions. Even just a bar breaking it apart like with the show full profile and hide full profile will help it seem more organized.

Also, need some definition around the watched, watched by, and the like down at the bottom.

Characters should probably have their own tab. I know it makes sense for it to be next to user info, but unless you are going to allow for a list of clickable names that leads to separate page, it's going to get lost in that little corner there. It would be best to have it open to everyone and very obvious by having its own tag.

I do see the positive of having the profile info on the front, as it seems MANY FA users can skip important information listed on the profile by just not looking. Now there isn't as much of an excuse.

The buttons on the submissions inbox page are awkwardly placed and could use some re-arranging as well as proper formatting for all buttons.

Of course consistency of changing pages from your profile to reading journals, submissions etc would be nice as well- though I am sure you are working on that.

Also, you're going to hear this a lot but it might as well be stated: People want folders and a commission info page.

the only problem with this is that people can spam it relentlessly.
However, if it were coded so that the artist can lock that tab whenever he or she wants to, and only allow people to fill out a certain number of forms (probably one, maybe 2 or 3) to avoid spamming. Also, the artist could build a form so that there are options under the commissions tab...

Also, if you wanted to commission an artist, there could be a notification system so that when the commissions tab is locked, you can hit a button, and once the tab is unlocked, you know about it. It could be filed under a separate 'journals, commission notifications, etc.' link (the comments and favorites would be separated from the journals). There could also be a commissions notification for the artist.

No all good ideas. I like the "wait list notification" would be really nice. Though I think baby steps for FA for now.

What I'd hope they do (and thought they could do now for the sake of having SOMETHING) is basically make a duplicate of the journal page, and let you upload the info like that.

The only thing is that it'll lack any commenting code or whatever.

I'd imagine it'd be a simple copy/paste job, and perhaps a bit of extra php or javascript or something to let you edit the info directly from your edit journal page. (check a box to upload the "journal" as your commission info or not).

Test page is toast in Apple's Safari. Looks like the standard FA GUI, just stretched downwards like taffy. No banner, no graphic elements from the beta UI. Just FYI. Taken a full page snapshot if you need ref.

Odd... it looks perfectly fine in Chrome which IIRC uses WebKit... unless apple updated their own version. Did you try a Ctrl+F5?

Shift-Command-R on Mac, and no, hard refresh has no effect. Tried on the Apple ported Firefox and Chrome browsers too, same exact page display: (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bobguthrie/8046302391). The OS is OX 10.8.2, on Safari 6.0.1, Firefox 15.0.1, Chrome 22.0.1.

No issue at all - though perhaps try to alter your settings to work with the dark theme - 'cause I have the dark theme set, and it's also showing a dark color theme for me on the test site. Perhaps whatever changes are made are being broken due to the color choice?

So far everything looks pretty good. Only thing I'd really want to see is a darker gray than what's there now, but that's just me.

This UI/Theme is heavily reliant on wide-screen displays, will this UI stuff be optimized for those that are stuck with 4:3 monitors?

Not bad! It's certainly looking better - although that is a lot of wasted space at the top with the banner size; perhaps that can be cut down a bit for those who are not running HD screens?

I like it! There's one thing I don't really like are the comment window! Any plans to make the "balloon" size up on different screen sizes? or moving them to the middle of the screen so those with 1920x1080 screens (or higher) can enjoy them a little more?

I noticed that the favorites are hard to access. Maybe if they were under the My FA drop-down menu? Maybe there could be a panel in that with user page, journals, submissions, scraps, favorites, stats, and anything else that you can think of. Otherwise, we either have to go to the URL directly, go to 'manage favorites,' or go down the user page to the 'view all favorites' link.
All in all, I'm loving how much of you've managed to improve the UI. Hopefully, the site can be up to Beta testing soon. Looking forward to it, 'Neer!

The new FA logo is actually really cool!

one issue i have is that all of the elements are stretched way across the screen and there's lots of empty space in places where there shouldn't be, maybe squish all the content a bit so that it's in the center. look at a popular website like tumblr, where all the empty space is concentrated in the sides of the page and all the text and content is in a compact, easily readable vertical column in the center of the page

for example, look at how the featured submissions have a bunch of empty space surrounding them and how the "reply to this post" button is on the complete opposite side of the screen from the actual comments. i know the design has been like this for a while but now is definitely a good time to consider changing it

also on the userpages there aren't any divisions between the featured submission, latest submissions, favorites, and watched by sections. they could really use their own content boxes

and finally i'd suggest devoting more space to the journals and profile info. i personally preferred how it was half-and-half in the old design

Also, I've posted quite a few comments, and (*knock on wood*) I've had no trouble with it. All that I've noticed is that the comment text begins after and one line below the user's screen name (I assume that that is part of the many problems you're having), which kind of throws me off.

Oops, about the watch button: it doesn't change to a '-watch' button, so I accidentally removed a watch from someone that I was trying to watch.

This. I assume this will be fixed XD because it's kind of hard to keep track of who you watched especially if you have a lot.

I do quite like the design of the new fa here. I don't find it too confusing for new users do to everything is pretty much the same. It just seems to show more stuff in columns than anything which I personally like. It is not too much of a change to throw off older users either which is nice also. I would say that is a good mid ground.

You need to be using the "dark" theme for it to work. I believe the reason why Chrome is working is because you're simply logged out on that browser.

I am seeing the same thing as in feralfrenzy's screenshot, with the broken navigation style. This is happening under windows using any of Firefox, Chrome and Safari browsers. It looks extremely bad in Safari. Refreshing, clearing the cache, clearing FA-related cookies, and restarting the browsers does not work.

Strangely, it works under Internet Explorer, and looks very similar to your sample image. Even though it appears to work best under IE at the moment, Many page elements are overlapping text, including the ads. The avatar images on the comments are overlapping the first letters of each user's name. I use a slightly larger than normal font, due to less-than-perfect eyes. Some, but not all, of the overlapping problems go away, if I reduce my font to near microscopic size (much smaller than the browser default). Of course, that makes the text completely unreadable, even on my large 32-inch screen. Since the styles do not work at all under Firefox or Chrome, the potential for overlapping page elements is unknown. The nav bar in those three browsers is a four-screen-high column of unstyled options. See feralfrenzy's screenshot above this message. You'll notice the style for the new colors is missing too. That all works in IE though.

Your sample preview image looks pretty good, so hopefully, it can actually work like that appears. I know, it's pretty much in the alpha-testing stage, but the style will need to be checked in all of the major browsers, and everything needs to work from the small 800x600 4x3 screens, that quite a few people are still using, up to widescreen at 1920x1080, or even 2560x1440. I personally use 1536x864. It should work with at least a range of font sizes, perhaps plus or minus about 50 percent. The current site is extremely flexible in these areas and has almost no problems accommodating the needs of people both with low vision and with perfect vision. FA's current extreme flexibility is just one of the reasons it is my favorite site. No other furry site works so well. Ink Bunny is probably a close second, as they've fixed all of the font size and overlapping issues that I was able to find. FA still looks better, because it is far less cluttered. The current simple and clean UI makes FA look a lot more professional than other furry sites, to me.

Also, if to try to select an option that is in line with the ad code, such as in this image "Manage Page Shouts", the menu disappears.

Before you do any more design work, the HTML syntax really needs to be cleaned up. My Tidy extension for Firefox is showing 318 errors, way more than in the existing production design. When there's syntax errors in the HTML, a lot of CSS stuff may not work correctly or consistently.

Looks nice overall, though I spot few things I'd change. The 'featured submission', 'latest submissions' and 'favourites' sections should be separated, so the 'watchers', and 'watching'. The enlarged submissions in those sections are smaller then the ones we have now, I think they should be bigger. The 'shout's' area looks nice.

Hmm... I gotta admit I'm not a huge fan of this. I would almost prefer to keep the design we currently have. At least on this layout I know where to look, the new design just draws the eye in way to many directions. Perhaps it will be better when it's closer to completion.

This is definitely an approvement! Although I'm not too crazy about the 'show full profile' 'hide full profile' thing... I kinda want users to see my full profile upon click on my profile.. there's important information there they might miss.

We're experimenting with the profile thing. Your profile's not too bad, but some users have profiles that read like the introduction to War and Peace. You have to scroll, and scroll a lot just to get to the meat of their page. That's crazy excessive, and one of the things we're trying to alleviate.

That said, the final "cut off" point won't be near so limited when all is said and done. =3

946 on the userpage
570 in journals
546 in submissions (IF the submission is in small view, if not, scales to large view width)

One thing I've noticed: in some wide submissions, there's a scroll bar at the bottom, even though there's no reason for one. Such is the case with my submissions from Edmol and Shiro (the eagle)

Comparing this side-by-side with design concept you posted 2 years ago... It's certainly going in the right direction, and I'm sure you are working very hard on this. Keep it up!

with a few more fixes this can definitely be a nice design.. however i am NOT very happy with having one big rop-down menu. I find them annoying enough to use but when I can't even access notes without looking at one mega dropdown menu then my buttcheeks tighten a little.
another thing i would fix is making the text in the comments a little bigger. they certainly are very small on my screen :(

Please don't tell me its going to be hided in the "My FA" drop down, the new layout as far as I can tell from this screen shot (Beta isn't compiling right at the moment) looks great, but that's my only peeve with it, I believe that profile links should always be in plain site and never hidden away, no other art site I know of does this and FA isn't being edgy by trying to be the first.

FA's design is dated and works horribly with mobile browsers. It desperately needs an update. I know people fear change and always complain when sites like Facebook and deviantART make changes, but they all get used to it in a month or less.

Also, afaik, Dragoneer's not the 'programmer' of the team, but hey, he's still doing what he can, so I think he should get credit for that.

ok sure FA needs an update for that but that can be fixed with either an app or a mobile platform of the site. and yes i am complaining about this. I like how the notes and things are separated which is good for easier access unlike it is now but the way the color is set is what looks bacd. It looks good now how the color is all one piece unlike that one where it has a light background and a dark middle.

If FA was a cooperation, I might agree with you. But all the FA 'staff' are volunteers, with the servers paid for by donations, so I'm just grateful the site manages to stay up 98% of the time.

Not even donations. FA hasn't received donations in a long, long time. :(

Last I remember, FA admins were telling people that they didn't want/need donations, so maybe that's why.

We've gotten a few donations of late, actually. =3 With the exception of one rather big one, they're rather sporadic and unreliable. We can only accept check/money order currently.

Oh that's good to know! I know you guys have been only able to accept snail mail due to your processor issue, so that's been kind of sad. I've been wanting to donate myself, but I am super leery about sending MOs after a few I sent out never made it.

I really like the current simplicity of furaffinity, this looks all complex.

I don't like changes. Plus, it's worked for this long. The internet is already complex enough, I think FA is perfect in its simple state. Just look at how successful the google search engine is, compared to previous search engines that were chock full of ads.

Lookin very good. I remember when you showed the first new UI screenshots and put as ETA May 21th if I recall well, but if the UI is seeming that good, I can wait.

Do you plan to make this layout live in beta.furaffinity.net eventually? I die for trying it. The website seems much more modern and good than before.

Also, am I allowed to suppose that this UI won't be slow? Sofurry (for giving an example) is slow as an ill snail, and considering that my bandwitch is worse than crap (100KB/s most of the time), speed is pretty important for me, and this makes SF sightly unusable for me.

It will be up there, yes. =) And no, the UI will not be slower, but slightly faster to use on a modern browser. It will NOT work so great on older browsers (like Internet Explorer 7). I'm not going to support backwards compatibility for an out-of-date browser from 6 years ago. If it works, it works... but otherwise, people may need to upgrade.

Well... I would strongly suggest you give the FA members the chance to do a 'Try before you Buy' thing on this.

I'm not saying I wouldn't use the new format, but just remember, "Less is more."

The only real suggestion I'd like to offer is a control of the type font. I'm no young fur (more a gray muzzle) and my peeper's aren't what they used to be. Having a chance to up the font when I need to would be a great help.

We'll do a beta by the end of it all. =3
