Secession doesnt exactly necessitate civil war. It'd be full retard on their part to actually DECLARE WAR if they even managed to secede, because we'd still have our military (the mass of it, besides if they were on the way to secession we'd pull everything but their respective national guards out and the NGs probably wouldnt stand a chance)

Though we'd still have to worry about people loyal to them in the military, there'd be tons of desertion

In all though, I'm not exactly worried.

Well its just that history showed that last time states seceded, there was war. So the posiblity is there. One we can't ignore...as much as I'd like to..

Our country was legitimately and heavily divided then, we had no sense of unity or centralized government at all. Our country and international diplomatic relations (which yes, would play a part in something as monumental as the country dividing back into two) were completely different then as opposed to now.

The current problems we are facing are the usual crankiness and poor sportsmanship brought on by an election. Is our country internally hostile towards each other? Yes, but it's been a long election and I sincerely doubt its to the point where we'd take up arms and start shooting each other.

If the idea of secession even made it to Congress, it would be laughed out. I guarantee you. A state's own representatives in Congress denying such a thing should show those that are trying to pull this stunt that it is a completely stupid idea, and hopefully, they will give up and either look at what their own leaders are doing/take it upon themselves to work towards improving the state of affairs in this country as opposed to running away. In my opinion, the very idea of secession is anti-american, and i hope others think so too.

Also, the petitions (which if anything are to get a response from our leadership than to actually secede) clearly state the desire for a PEACEFUL secession. If by some act of god or fate the states did succeed, if we did for some reason decide to start attacking them (please tell me that im not the only one who finds this notion laughable) we'd take the role of the aggressor/belligerent on the international scene and this would be a bad move.

Eh, well, I hope it really does just blow over. I mean this is pretty childish. "HURR I HATE OBAMA I'M GONNA MAKE MY STATE NOT IN THE USA"
