Subboss Theme - Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game OST
13 years ago
When I hear this, I honestly think beyond the "sub boss" battle against Envy Adams and the other girl in the Scott Pilgrim game. It's obvious that when Anamanaguchi composed this tune, they were aiming to create something that embodied what the old games of the past have tried to encompass whenever your player character would encounter a "sub boss" or "nemesis" character. I'm weathered enough to hear some NES "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 and 3" in this, some "Battletoads & Double Dragon" in this, and maybe a smidgen of what other old-school games have tried to present music-wise whenever you would encounter "that one douche who's stopping the screen from continuing to scroll onward..."
CLEARLY inspired by the old NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games. Immediately I think "mid-level" enemy with a life bar that the screen has now locked because of.
It's sad that they didn't take advantage of any further opportunities to use this tune in the Scott Pilgrim game. Hearing it early on, on Stage 3 during the Envy Adams boss fight, is a bit befitting since any gung-ho players will most likely have reached her with low stats, thus making the boss fight significantly challenging (on account of the player's impatience, lol...). But hearing it at "Robot 001" was a joke. :U
An epic tune nonetheless, but I say it could produce much more effectual results if it was included in a badass fangame, lol...
