I got the new inverter in last night.
Put it in this morning, and it gives me a slightly longer startup before going black again.
The part was bought off an ebay auction Wolfwings suggested- a used part.
But apparently, the tested part was just good enough to get out the door before failing.
(I have not looked just yet to see what warrantee they offered on dead parts.)
Either that- or the problem is something beyond a dead inverter.
There was no ozone smell on this one, and it does get as far as the welcome screen most of the time.
But then it goes black like the other one.
I did look for new inverters, and they're rather more expensive- running from $35 to $55.
But for the moment, I do not have the cash to buy a new one..And if the problem is the inverter, I don't want to fuck with used parts again.
Got some thinking to do to fix this.

I wonder why it was refusing to work before?
this means the inverter is clearly the problem..And the fix will be to buy a new inverter rather than another salvaged used one.

I have a factory new one on the way now, and the problem having been identified, I only have to wait out the US mail.
