I need some help
I think what I need is a lot of advice and information. I really do not have the mental capacity to figure everything out.
I’ve looked up apartments locally here in Florida and in Asheville North Carolina. I wouldn’t even be able to afford a 1 bedroom place with my government checks. Also my checks still have my mother’s name on them so that’s another thing that would need to be worked out…
In general there are many factors against me. Even if I wanted to work to support myself there are not many jobs that I can do. I’m a legally blind high school drop out with a hell of a lot of social anxiety. I’m really not independent at all…
I feel like at the moment what I need most is to talk to a psychiatrist or something. All of this stress is adding up and I really don’t want to snap. I’d like to talk to someone, but I have no way of leaving the house. I also kind of doubt that online psychiatrists would take insurance…

I just learned about this website, http://www.benefits.gov/
They basically take some anonymous info and then provide links to places where you can apply for benefits and services you qualify for.
I'll look up places around here. I just don't know how I would get to them.
I really don't want to live anywhere near my family so it may be better for me to look into applying for things once I have found a place to go.
I also /cant/ find work, due to my social anxiety and other mental disorders. if you need someone to talk to, I'm always around, I'm in your same sort of situation. (not the same, but the same SORT. ^^;) I'm also legally blind, I'm actually completely blind in one eye. Looking to move to NC myself here soon. In about a year or so. ^^;
Does it matter if I don't have my cards? My mother has them all... >_>
I probably could use someone to talk to. I'll try to go on Skype later today.
Another option you would have is to pay rent to your parents while living with them, then contact SSI and let them know the costs of living has gone up based one what you pay. Honestly, its dumb how SSI works, but if you are paying a certain percentage MORE than when you initially signed up for SSI, they are required to send you more money and even back pay in some instances. So my example is that I was living with my grandparents and eventually moved in with my gf and I had to pay about $400 - I contacted SSI and they increased my pay which makes it MUCH easier to be able to afford living. Also I recommend getting food stamp cards for your area. I live in WI and they're called Quest Cards, but that will cover food for you.
I'm in the same boat that it costs too much and I'm not getting much through SSI. Another option to cut back on costs, is each year when you choose a medicaid (or medicare) insurance, find one that covers transport to and from doctors' appointments and medical related things. I am lucky to have a medicaid insurance that I don't have copays for except for certain specialties.
All the money has gone to my mother all this time. I don't spend it. So I can't really say that to the government. It would only be possible if the check was in only my name.
I don't choose a plan it's chosen for me by the government. I've never changed anything from what they have given me. I don't normally go to dr's and such. My mother seems to believe that I'm healthy so there is no point... It's kind of frustrating. It's not like I want to tell her everything about me.
As for the income, it will go to your mother while you are a minor. So once you are 18 (if you are not already) you have full rights to go to the nearest social security administration or call them. You have full rights to change it to go straight to you.
And for the insurance - if you are an adult, you will get a nice hefty book each year that goes through the different insurance companies that will be covered under medicaid (if you have medicaid instead of medicare - as for medicare, I am not on that, so I don't entirely know about it). For instance:
And I used to be in the same boat with my mom. In fact, she still doesn't fully understand how I'm disabled... she just won't ever know what its like to be fearful of what's going to come around the corner at walmart or any store aisle. Hell, its been a running joke between my wife and I that I'm so scared that I jump at the sound of falling bread. XD Its hard to have your heart pounding through your chest just to go grocery shopping or pick up some shampoo. So I can empathize with you on their failure to understand.
The thing is the only thing I have to prove my identity to them is my ID. I would need a lot more than that.
I am pretty sure that I have both since I get 2 checks a small one from SSI and the other one that lets me have Medicare. I've seen the book for medicare but not one from medicaid.
I've never been shopping alone. I think I would have a panic attack. >_< I don't know how to act around normal people. I feel like they probably think I'm a retard or something just because of my vision.
You have your ID, but the most important part that you will need is your social security number. In order to change something like that, like for me, I just need my full name, birth date, current living address, and SSN.
One is part of your parents' social security money, and the other is SSI. I have that too. That's only because I have no work experience and have never had a job, so I don't have money built up for Social Security money. That would be sent to you as well even though it is part of your parents' SS money.
You may have medicaid and medicare mixed up, but if you're legally blind, you may already be getting medicare compared to medicaid. You won't get bother, just on or the other. Medicare is supposed to be better than Medicaid. Although now that I personally have been on medicaid for over 2 years, I am able to apply for medicare.
I've had service dogs for going shopping alone, but I am also fortunate to have a wife that is willing to go with me as well... well, all the time now that I'm no longer able to drive. Your disability isn't what defines who you are... a good piece of advice so you know how to act around new people.
