And the list keeps getting longer!

The Rantings of an Art Crazed Chow, Second verse, same as the first.
For awhile now, I've kept a list in my head, a list of artists and such who's characters I will not draw for one reason or another. Before some of you shudder in fear, or shake your fists in anger, please let me explain. In this genre of ours, there are some folks who would not mind the opportunity to have their characters drawn by others, regardless of talent and skill, while there are others who pick and choose who get to do the honors.
A few weeks ago, while FA was in limbo, word filtered down to me of a piece I did years ago for someone, a piece that I did from the heart, without asking for any compensation for except for the enjoyment of the receiving party, that is all I usually ask for since I do not consider myself an accomplished artist. Well, the comments were not all that kind, in fact I have always expected no real honest comments for what I do, to avoid such things as butthurt and such, hey, that's a given with me. This was a person I valued as a friend years ago but I have lost contact with.
I would not even let this become an issue at all, just let it slide but then the list came up in my head and I read through it. What kind of person would I be if I just followed the examples of those on that list. I won't say cause I feel it is not my place to criticize others unless I really know them. On the other hand, I feel quite upset to be remembered in such a way. It all leads back to why I am writing this in the first place, not to take a stab at this person, but to give out fair warning if some might notice me not faving their work, unwatching them, not paying homage to their character(s) by not presenting my vision of what their character(s) look like through my eyes.
In a sense, I hate the list because it just adds another degree of separation between me and others, but at the moment, the list is an evil I have to deal with so don't take it personal if maybe my next work might not feature a promised cameo from your character(s), I'm just treading on thin ice here and I don't want to fall in.
Cheers.

If a person request then they should have a good judge of what your drawing style is like, so as not to complain about the end result. Even if the pic does not turn out like expected its only good manners and common decency to thank someone for the effort, you can be polite and truthfull at the very least. To slag of work that someone has took time to create and work on is a poor show of someones character. At the end the best pictures are only that and while they can bring great pleasure and enjoyment and happiness, and artist should always be seen above their work.
Having to decide what your gonna do and what your gonna cut is tough but you need to put yourself before others. Its easy enough for many people to ask, but its nice if you can find those willing to give something back aswell. Dont feel bad about doing what you need to do, after all you need to keep afloat yourself.
