Where did Bern come from? Idea-wise

(he don't live in the earth we know, but in a parallel world where the continent are located differently. also there are much more land in it)

Bern as all the other dragon of his word, hatched in a cave situated in a large island (near 217 miles radius) that is located in the range of the equator. (the center is at -18 longitude ) this is a sacred island for all the dragons and they call it ܣܒܪܐ. (hope) while a dragon choose to mate come back here.
Once he learned how to fly, he followed his father in a new continent, ( LA +44 LO -55) where the humans and the dragon were living together. Until he reached his 150th hatchday.
Then he started to travel constantly for 100 years, until he reached the city where he live now.


(Anyway, it come from a dream i had almost 17 years ago, but it's a long story (If i've misunderstood your question ))

Its design and his main color come from a dream.
Initially, Bern was completely black and hadn't real form, almost as if it was a shadow that look like a dragon.
Once in one of my dream became "real"
His appearance (except for some part,) reflected the body of a d&d, red dragon even though he was black.
liking the idea, i've take inspiration from the genetics to make him more colorful.
It became the son of a black dragon and a red dragon, and exploiting the Mendel's theory, the father besides giving the black genes also give the yellows genes.(that was completely recessive against the black) the red and the yellow genes were egual, so they mixed together and generated the color orange. So at the end, Bern officially hatched with a red dragon body, the black dragon's wings and with a black and orange coloration.

If you're asking why i've add the yellow gene, well. Bernstein (that is his surname. His name is Dahnak) mean amber in German language. * So, i choose explain that the distant ancestors of the father were color yellow/amber, before starting to mate with blacks dragons and lose their true color.

*(Since everyone has called me Bernstein (for short Bern) on internet for years. I choose to give this name to my dragon)

Ok... thats a story to how Napther came about...
He was just a dragon I drew once, I liked his colours and his patterns quite a bit, I was also looking to make OCs (as everyone had them but me...) So I adopted him...
Without a proper name, I thought Id use "Naphtha" as a basis for his name (a series of flammable Organic-Hydrocarbon compounds belonging to the straight-chain alkanes)

Adding an "er" suffix for a male name and removing the "h" from the "ph" created Napther, an extremely original name that isnt used anywhere on the internet... (but me, his flamy-pattern running along his belly was my idea when I didnt have any internet, I put it on as I was drawing him to make him more unique)...

The only thing I have Napther is a basic version of NeonDragon's type...

after being gobbled up, how do prey survive in Bern?

Short reply: Inhaling and pushing the air out from his stomach.

Long reply: Bern during the years, has learned how to ventilate his digestive system. Every five normal breaths, the sixth instead of passing into the trachea and enter into the lungs, it passes through the esophagus and reach the stomach.
The stomach shrinks imperceptibly and the air flow in an arc movement, pushing out the oldest air.
This not only makes him possible to give enough air to anyone inside it, but also to regulate the temperature of its stomach.

However, before swallow someone, he pushes out all the air in his belly and he swallows a new one, so that it have a fresh smell and not stale smell.

For the full tour, he's able to change the air inside his gut, even if his preparation takes longer and generally the travel trough gut is rapid. If he keep someone inside his gut, he keep it near the beginning of the rectum, in order to give him air for the other "entry."

Wonder what the effect would be if he overdid it (maybe uncontrollably) before consuming something to put in his stomach?...

Bern had maturated a lot of experience about this, so he has no problems while he refresh his stomach.
Anyway, if he find a problem in his stomach, like excessive amount of air or the opposite, he can force his body to expel of inhale more of it.
Keep in mind that his belly is extremely elastic and can inflate a lot.

Part 2:

Regarding the prey instead, he can just breath normally, as the air is constantly changed inside the stomach and move all around it. So he don't have to stay near the entrance of the stomach for breath. The digestion will never start as long there are one alive creature inside it, and it can be hold even when Bern sleep, so the prey can relax and sleep if he need so.
Inside, the prey can talk with Bern and can express his needs at any moment. The Bern's fleshy walls can be extremely sensitive, (or completely insensitive if he want to) so if the prey need something can attract the Bern's attention quite easily.
If Bern realize that the prey need more air than the usual flux, he can just force his body to gulp and refresh the air more often.

(NOte: The Bern's stomach and gut are always clean. This is because Bern eat regular food few times or even only one time a month. So his body will digest and absorb the whole food, avoiding to produce waste. This allow the prey to have a full tour without find any dirt during the travel. )

How does Bern best like to catch his prey? Sneak up on them like a hunting predator? Or trap them? Or does he like prey to come to him and willingly offer themselves?

Bern usually swallow willingly creature, mainly for his job or for protect the "prey" if he think that he need protection. So he simply and carefully eat the creature in front of him or let the prey enter inside his mouth.
He can behave like he's hunting for real (sneak up attack or aerial attack) only if the prey ask to try a similar experience.

Bern Is really happy if can feel the prey behave happily inside him. He love receive gentle caress to the walls of his stomach or feel that the prey is sleeping noisily inside him.

He prefer do vore in that order: Oral, anal, cock. (even if he really really like the unbirth. More than the other three)
