You're talking about a point I often thought about
On the one hand side, it's obvious: if there's a bunch of people with money and a special interest, it doesn't take long somebody exploits them.
On the other hand side, of course, if people have many fans, they won't open themselves to everyone of them, else they would have no time left.

But in this particular case, you're right. If they actually hate their own fanbase and pretend to be part of it just for the money, something is going wrong.

I think that most of them are actually tempted by the huge influx of moneys that the furry fandom can give. I saw commissions that went over the 400 $ for every participant... Also, i saw that "exploit" being used over and over by a certain user...

By the way, a simple reply to a comment don't take so much time, and it's a very nice thing to do if you actually care about your watchers.

And yeah. There are still some very nice people here in the fandom. Thankfully, i've meet some of them during the past years. ^^

I agree, comments are very important to me. I love artists still replying to comments on their stuff, even though being pretty popular in the fandom. It just shows me that they're doing it for the art and the people, not just for the money and the popularity.

That's why I hope I never get that famous. I don't want to be apathetic towards people. I think it might be fame itself that does that; you just get so overwhelmed by people wanting to talk to you that it burns you out and you can't care anymore.

Being famous don't make you automatically an apathetic person. There are some little thing you can do, like reply at the comments that your watches write. It's a small thing, but at the same time it make they feel that you actually care for your watchers.
Sure, the chats are almost a completely different topic as they take much more time...

I know, but I mean, I think some people just can't handle it, or maybe it happens too fast. I know there are even really kind RL celebrities who are very in touch with their fans; they aren't all like Justin Beiber, but I think that's because JB didn't have time to acclimate, and he was taken too young, so that's why he turned into this weird... I dunno what the word I'm looking for is. But I think stuff like that can happen online, too. Some people just get too popular too fast and they can't handle it. It either swells their egos too much or it scares them.

The real life celebrities are a different theme in my opinion.
About the artist that you mentioned, i think that the major cause is that he became famous while he was way too young. Being covered in moneys and fame on a similar age would make you experience a way too many thing so quickly. So, you would think that you already saw and experienced everything in your life. This is why there are cases where some young celebrities end into have a dependence about drugs, Because they are no longer able to appreciate the world without them.

By the way, the irl celebrities have millions of fans. A FA celebrities will never reach such amount of people.

I kind of agree with this statement here. I don't draw things for money. I draw things for the people.

I think they usually rationalize it as "it's a buisness". so I can kind of see the mindset there. at the same time it's a bit odd because they seem to be annoyed by the rest of the fans who take art more personally,haha

Yeah, i guess that some of the artist went into the furry fandom just because they know that there are a lot of people here that have a lot of cash to spare.
Also, The pantreon stuff only worsened everything in my opinion.

yeah. at risk of drawing ire from the people who go "omg you can't expect everyone to give everything for free!?", the number of non-art posts(adverts,etc) increased when that got popular, some people seem to use their galleries just to advertise stuff they have on there.
if the site had a clear function for people to do that or not do it, it would probably be better than having both parties(the do and do not,so to speak) clashing over it and (that) is silly haha

Personally I am trying to still think of a way to make sure I don't turn into a sour artist or let the worst things get to me. It's no secret that the furry community can have some terrible trolls in it but I struggle to think that the majority of people here are not worth being polite and decent to.

I still would like to be more well known on FA personally but I would like to try my best to bring a positive spin to it. I guess one really doesn't know until it happens. I mean a common theme among biographies on famous people is that they were super nice and great people until the fame got to their head.

I think it eventually calls for a bit of a wake up call for those artists and I am sure they will eventually get one. Life is funny that way.

Just one last note, there should be a distinction between an artist trying to market themselves and get money to feed themselves for the month and someone who is just taking money and running. I feel sympathy for someone who has to make up the difference in their life with art work but all that sympathy goes out the window when they let their desperation become an excuse to throw decency out the window.
