Can you tell me what the shit is actually going on here? Why is everyone suddenly going to Weasyl?

Someone in another journal mentioned that something had happened to cause it... do you have any idea what that was?

     On Feb 14, seems that Weasyl went from invite-only to open membership. No need to ask
someone to sponsor you.

     Meaning there'll be a minor rush of folks announcing Weasyl accounts. Credit where due;
the place is reasonably sweet. There's a bit of pent-up demand.

     The more the merrier. Furry will take over the Internet yet. First, we pounce on
Manhattan, then we bite Berlin. *

I'm not leaving for Weasyl, but two things happened of note.

1. Weasyl opened up their beta for all. No invites are needed.

2. A user was stalked, on FA and on other sites. She posted a journal with details, and the admin reaction was to delete the journal and reprimand her for posting the journal. She left, her friend posted a journal about the whole situation which fetched tons of comments, and only recently was said stalker banned.

I know I'm probably on the wrong side of this argument but the person who posted the journal wasn't abiding by the guidelines which state not to respond to trolls and harassment but to just report it. It's in the TOS and it exists for a reason. But like I said I'm probably on the wrong side of this argument and you know what? I don't give a fuck. I'm not leaving FA for any reason and I already have a Weasyl account. I use both and I like both. I crosspost too which a lot of people hate but oh well.

I think my entire bone of contention is if when the journal was deleted, FA admins said 'we are looking into this'. I think that would probably make a lot of people happier.

Well I'm not saying FA admins can do no wrong but I think they were trying to CYA in this case. Ironically by deleting the journal they seem to cause more drama instead of preventing it. They probably thought that if they deleted the journal people wouldn't know enough about the situation to get angry about it. Chalk it up to a learning experience.they should have requested that the journal be edited or removed by choice not an administrative action. Hopefully they learned something.

Regardless though I'm rather detached from the situation because I don't know anyone involved and nothing the admins have done has affected how I do things here. I joined Weasyl just to get more exposure to the community at large. I'm not looking for an alternative to FA.

So what's this thing?
